Learning

Well, It took me awhile, but I finally got all 80 questions of the learning style inventory answered. Here are the results:

Learning Style Explaination

In this theory, the brain learns better with a certain type of input. There are eight input styles: Linguistic, Mathematical, Visual/spacial, Body/kinesthetic, Naturalistic, Musical, Interpersonal, and intrapersonal. Linguistic is when the brain learns best when being spoken to. Mathematical is when the brain learns best when it is given a logical or mathematical reason for anything it learns. Visual is when the brain learns best when presented with a picture. Body is when the brain learns best when the person is doing physical activity, such as a sport. Naturalistic is when the brain learns best while in a natural environtment, such as a tree filled park. Musical is when the brain learns best when there is music present, or when it is listening to music.Intrapersonal is when the brain learns best when not around large numbers of people, or alone entirely. Interpersonal is when the brain learns best while being with large groups of people. There are several different possible combinations of these styles among people.

As you might have seen from the graph, I am closely tied with Visual/spacial, and Musical. I learn very well when seeing a visual example of something, or when I work with music on. I have always noticed this even before I took the inventory. I seemed to not be able to work at homework without some form of sound in the background, whether it be music or not. I also seem to do better when the T.V. is on in the background, mostly for the sound, but partly for the bright picture.

Sample Lesson

A lesson for a visual person would be as follows. The teacher would ask the student to draw a picture about the scariest moment in his/her life. The picture would have to have text wrapped around the border, giving a description of the picture's meaning. The picture will be graded mainly on the presentation (How it looks), but will be graded by the text too.

Favorite Lesson

One of the best lessons I've had in school was probably the time when I was in grade 8, I was in the Montessori program, and my teacher, Mr. Fickenscher, made us make posters all the time. The work was tedious, but seeing all the other group's posters was very interesting. Anther good lesson was when we recorded documentaries om certain envirnmental conditions on audio tapes. Hearing my classmate's projects was very good for me. These cover both of my top learning styles.
