What's new with Koji?

(as of September 5, 1999)

The summer is almost over.  I had a quite busy summer, mainly traveling for conferences.  I was in Los Angeles for the Society of Nuclear Medicine Annual Meeting at the beginning of June.  It was a good conference, and my oral presentation went as good as I could hope.  In the middle of July, I was at SPIE Annual Meeting at Denver.  I thought the quality of the conference was not very high.  My talk didn't really go that great, unfortunately.  Then, I went to Tokyo to attend the Workshop on Low-Energy Positron and Positronium Physics in Tsukuba, Japan, a science town a little bit away from Tokyo.  This conference was related to my previous work I did in San Diego, and it is a bi-annual conference I had gone in last two occasions.  The people at the conference were really nice, and the quality of science is quite high.  I did enjoy the scientific interaction, but felt a little bit out of place, since I no longer work in this field.

In between these conferences, I had some fun as well. [What do you expect from me? :)]  I went to San Diego right after the Los Angeles meeting, and it was a lot of fun.  Also, I had to stay in Japan for a couple of weeks to renew my visa.  So, I went traveling with Steve and Anne (my ex-roommates from San Diego) to the central part of Japan, and we had great time.  We stayed in youth hostels in three locations; Nagano, Norikura, and Takayama.  We took trains, buses, and hitchhiked.  We met many interesting and nice people, had wonderful meals, and had great hikes.  The best part about the trip for me is the people who I have met.

After these numerous trips, I have been trying to get back to the swing of things lately.  I didn't go surfing too much this summer, my house is looking like a disaster area, and my work is falling behind.  (Of course, I hadn't had time to update my homepage!)  I am trying to change that so that my life will be a little bit more organized, and I am slowly accomplishing this task.  Also, I miss backpacking and fishing, which I usually do during the summer.  So, I plan to go fly fishing  and backpacking sometime soon.  Also, I will try to keep up the homepage.  :)

Love & Peace!
