Happy belated Christmas, New Year, birthdays to some, and all miscellaneous holidays! As some of you may or may not have noticed, I missed my web page update for December, as I was very busy with a few things. First of all, I have moved out of my old house/apartment and into my girlfriend's (Regina's) house in December. I really liked my old place, but we realized that our relationship had reached the point, where it is right for us to move in together. Regina has been living here for a year, and addition of my stuff is crowding this place a little right now. It still is a very nice place. Once I finish unpacking my stuff and fixing up this place, it will be really nice. Also, I like this neighborhood (Richmond District of San Francisco), as good restaurants and shops are within walking distance. (For new address/phone number, please email me at [email protected].)
Another reason I was so busy was that my research group decided to write a grant proposal that had a deadline at the beginning of January. It was submitted to National Institute of Health, a government funding organization for health science research. A proposal usually takes 6 weeks for my boss to write, and we only had 4 weeks including the Christmas and New Year's holidays since we decided to write it. The project is to build a small animal imaging system. If we get this grant funded, it will guarantee my salary for next 5 years, so it was important for me. My boss, Bruce, did most of work, so it wasn't too bad for me. Still I did as much as I could, which took a lot of my time.
On the fun side, Regina and I went to Yosemite, a national park in Central California, for New Year's holiday with a couple of my friends from San Diego, Anne and Jim. We stayed in a Bed and Breakfast, and hiked around a couple of days. These hikes and hot-tubbing in snow were really nice.
An unfortunate thing happened to me last week was that I injured my back and hip. I somehow messed up my back and re-aggravated my old hip injury. As a result, I have been having trouble walking and sitting, so I am staying in bed for 6 days. Hopefully, it will heal nicely and quickly so that I will be back on my feet soon.
My 32nd birthday is coming up soon (January 30). Presents are gladly accepted. (Joking). Actually, birthday email, cards, or wishes will be really nice.
Smile and love, Koji

My back has healed nicely. Thanks for your concern! Also, I am organizing a dinner outing at a restaurant on January 30, Sunday. Please let me know if you are interested in joining us.
