"My First Vacation"
senior  memory book: chapter two: article
Florida - an excellent place for one to go on vacation. My grandparents had a second house in Port Charlotte, so we decided to occupy it for two weeks. We didnt have the money to fly down, so we packed up into our 88 Chevrolet Cavalier station wagon and headed down early on a June morning in 92.

Later, the next day, we arrived. I was consumed with curiosity, and every last detail caught my attention. The weather was extraordinarily warm, considering the fact that I was accustomed to Cincinnati weather. The palm-trees were a wonder to behold, especially in comparison to the broadleaf and coniferous trees of the Cincinnati region.

There were anoles everywhere, and they were what consumed the majority of my time and attention while at the house. Extremely quick and agile, they were wonderfully entertaining to chase down and capture. I often caught them by the tail, however, and it would simply detach from the body, I being left with it writhing in my fingers.

The beaches were the highlight of the vacation, however. I had never been to the ocean before, nor had I ever even been to a saltwater body. That in itself was interesting enough. However, it wasnt all. I could entertain myself for hours on end simply with floating over the waves.

We would also build sandcastles galore to entertain ourselves further. Eventually, though, the sandcastles alone grew boring. So, we moved it a step further. We would dig large holes in the sand, then climb in them and bury ourselves all the way up to the head. Then, wed build sandcastles around that. It was great.

After what certainly didnt seem like long enough, our two weeks ended. We had to go home my cousins were supposed to be coming down to vacation next. We packed up, jumped into the car, and made the two-day trip back home.
