| Spike, Jet, and Faye all go out to capture a new list of bounties. The manage to get everyone on the list, but it turns out that they are all working under one mastermind and only the mastermind brings in the bounty. They decide to put their clues together to find the mastermind, and realize that they are all holding chess pieces. The chess pieces are holding saved data on them, so Ed puts them on her computer and starts to play a game a chess. Jet finds out that the mastermind is an insider for the gate corporation, who goes by the name Chessmaster Hex. Jet goes to the gate corporation to find out more, and runs into a man named John that he knows. John is also looking for Hex, and easedrops on the information that Jet gets by spying on the corporation. Hex had worked for the gate corporation some fifty years before, and dissapeared soon after. He helped construct the gate portals, and wanted to delay progress to fix some bugs in the system. They fired him and now he was getting his revenge. It ends up that Ed is playing against Hex in her game of chess. The bebop crew track him down, finding an old senile man playing chess. Hex had planned for his revenge to take place 50 years after, but had grown old and senile with the time. John, who had followed the crew to find Hex, goes crazy. He had lost a lot of money because of the old man and couldn't take it anymore. He stays on the ship along with the other old drifters, while Jet goes back to the gate corporation to straiten things out. The corporation is willing to pay Jet to keep this a secret, but all Jet demands is for the bounty to be taken off Hex. Afterall, Ed would be very unhappy to lose her favorite chess partner ^___^ | |||||||||||
