HISTORIA: Sapsali saapui Koreaan luultavasti Kaukoidän koillisosista, mutta mitään varmaa tietoa ei ole. "Sap" tarkoittaa kaivaa ulos ja "sar" merkitsee kummitusta. Näin ollen "sapsaree" on "koira, joka karkoittaa pahoja henkiä". Jopa ne, jotka eivät ole nimen merkitystä koskaan kuulleet ovat sitä mieltä, että kun sapsali vahtii ei ole pelkoa kummituksista.
ORIGIN: Korea
HISTORY: It's thought that the Sapsaree came to Korea from the North-Eastern parts of far east, but there's no sure fact about it. The first syllable, "sap", means to dig out, and the second, "sar", means a ghost. Therefore, "Sapsaree" literally means "a dog that roots out evil spirits". Even those who don't know the origin of the name do know that wherever the Sapsaree watches, there are no evil spirits.

YLEISTÄ: Kyungsanin farmilla Koreassa elää noin 600 puhdasrotuista sapsalia. Hallitus tukee uusia tutkimuksia ja suojeluohjelmia edistääkseen rodun pelastamista. Sapsaleita on kaksi, sininen ja keltainen sapsali. Sininen on saanut nimensä mustavalkoisesta karvapeitteestään, joka näyttää kuunvalossa sinertävältä. Keltainen on hieman tätä suurempi ja sillä on sekä keltaista, mustaa että valkoista karvaa sekaisin.
GENERAL: There are currently 600 pure-bred Sapsarees alive in stock farm of Kyungsan, Korea. The government is sponsoring new studies and preservation project to encourage the preservation of the breed. There are two variations of Sapsaree, Blue and Yellow Sapsaree. Blue has got its name from its black-white coat that seems to be bluish when viewed with moonlight. Yellow is a little bit bigger and it has both yellow, black and white hairs mixed.

KÄYTTÄYTYMINEN/ LUONNE: Sapsali on tasapainoinen, sosiaalinen ja omistajalleen uskollinen. Joitain yksilöitä käytetään myös terapiakoirina. Rodun ominaisuuksia tutkittaessa käyttäytymisen ja luonteen ja karvapeitteen värin väliltä löydettiin tietynlainen yhteys. Suurosa aroista ja epävarmoista koirista kuuluivat sinisten narttujen populaatioon.
BEHAVIOR/ CHARACTER: Almost Sapsarees have a very high emotional stability, sociability, master intimacy and so on. Some dogs used as a therapy dog. When analyzing the behavioral and emotional characteristics of Sapsaree breed, there was found a certain level of relationship between behavioral, emotional characteristics and coat color phenotype. A high rate of timid behavior and emotional unstability was found in the population of female blue Sapsarees.

VÄRI: Värit luokitellaan yhteensä 12 eri kategoriaan. A) Sininen; sininen black & tan, tumma black & tan, sinimusta tai tummanmusta. Jaottelu riippuu pigmentin voimakkuudesta ja jakaantumisesta. B) Keltainen; vahvan keltainen, keltainen, vaaleankeltainen, kullanvärinen tai tummankeltainen. Jaottelu riippuu keltaisen värin sävystä. Populaatiosta on löydetty myös harvinaisempia kastanjanruskeita ja kirjavia yksilöitä.
COLOR: The various coat colors of Sapsaree breed are classified into 12 categories. A) Blue Sapsarees are divided into BTB (Black & Tan: Blue), BTD (Black & Tan: Dark), SBB (Solid Black: Blue) and SBD (Solid Black : Dark) according to the intensity and distribution pattern of melanin pigment. B) Yellow Sapsarees are divided into SY (Strong Yellow), MY (Medium Yellow), LY (Light Yellow), GY (Golden Yellow) and DY (Dark Yellow) according to the different tones of yellow color. The minor coat colors of chestnut and piebald were also found in the Sapsaree population.
