HISTORIA: Veronkantaja Friedrich Louis Dobermann kehitti työhönsä sopivan koiran 1800-luvun lopulla. Hänen risteytyksissä käyttämistään roduista ei ole varmuutta, mutta jalostuksessa arvellaan olleen mukana manchesterinterrierejä, pinsereitä, englanninvinttikoiria, rottweilereita ja weimarinseisojia. Myös beauceronin osuutta epäillään, ja se onkin ulkonältään kuin dobermannin ja rottweilerin välimuoto.
ORIGIN: Germany.
HISTORY: In the end of 19th century tax collector Friedrich Louis Dobermann developed dog, which was suitable for his work. It's not sure what breeds he used in his crossing, but it's thought that there was for example Manchester Terriers, German Pinschers, English Greyhounds, Rottweilers and Weimaraners. It's also thought that Beauce Shepherd would have been in crossing, because it really resembles something between Dobermann and Rottweiler.

YLEISTÄ: Dobermanni on koira, jota monet pitävät komeana ja valitettavasti jotkut ihmiset ajattelevat myös, että "se on kova ja paha koira". Tälläinen ajattelu on kuitenkin typerää; jos koira halutaan ns. "kovuuden ja pahuuden" perusteella, kyseessä on mitä ilmeisemmin sellainen ihminen, joka ei paljoa välitä kouluttaa koiraansa eikä liioin huolehtia siitä, vaan ottaa sen vain pelottavan maineen perusteella. Maine on valitettavasti mustamaalannut dobermannin joidenkin ihmisten silmissä, mutta onneksi nykyään useimmat koiraihmiset tietävät normaalien rodun edustajien olevan yhtä hyväluonteisia kuin muutkin keskivertokoirat. Se on erittäin suosittu rotu niin Suomessa kuin muuallakin maailmassa, ja samalla myös yksi tunnetuimmista roduista.
GENERAL: Dobermann is a dog, that many people think it's handsome and unfortunately some people think also that "it's cool and bad dog". However, that kind of thinking is really stupid; if somebody wants a dog because "it's so cool and bad", that person obviously doesn't care of his/her dog's training, he/she only takes it because it's bad reputation. Unfortunately that reputation has painted Dobermann in black in minds of some people, but nowadays the most of dog people knows that normal Dobermanns have also as good character as other normal dogs. It's very popular breed in Finland and in other countries, and one of the most well-known dog breeds in the world.

LUONNE: Dobermanni on oikein koulutettuna ystävällinen, lapsirakas ja uskollinen kumppani. Vieläkin on ihmisiä, jotka uskovat sen olevan jollain tavalla luonnostaan aggressiivinen ja hyökkäävä, mutta se ei missään nimessä pidä paikkaansa. Vika ei ole rodussa, vaan huonoissa omistajissa tai joskus, joskin harvoin syntyvissä luonnevikaisissa yksilöissä. Dobermanni on erinomainen palveluskoira ja sopii moniin muihinkin harrastuksiin. Koulutuksessa on kuitenkin otettava huomioon sen itsepäisyys, eikä se sovi ensi koiraksi vaativuutensa vuoksi. Se tarvitsee myös paljon aktiviteettia ja tekemistä, ja on hyvä vahtikoira.
CHARACTER: When Dobermann is well-trained it's friendly, fond of children and loyal companion. There's still some people who believe that it would be aggressive by nature, but that is not true. Fault is not in the breed, it's in that kind of owners who doesn't take care of their dogs and sometimes also some dogs which are psychopathic for some reason (these dogs are not common). Dobermann is an excellent working dog and it's also good for many other activitets. Anyway, when you are training it you should pay attention to it's stubborn and generally it's not suitable for first dog. It needs lot of activitets and much to do, but if you want you can get it good watch dog.

VÄRI: Musta, ruskea, sininen tai isabella. FCI ei hyväksy sinistä ja isabellaa, mutta AKC ja KC rekisteröivät kaikkia neljää. Lisäksi on olemassa valkoisia ja albiinoja koiria, mutta niitä kennelliitot ja -klubit eivät hyväksy.
COLOR: Black, brown, blue or fawn (isabell). FCI doesn't accept blue and fawn, but AKC and KC register all four colors. There's also some white and albino dogs, but none of them accepts these colors.

SÄKÄKORKEUS: Uros 68-72 cm, narttu 63-68 cm.
HEIGHT: Males 68-72 centimeters, females 63-68 centimeters.
