| Jubei chan, the Ninja girl brings the legend of Yagyu Jubei back to life in the new series. Mostly a comedy that comes out fresh and brand new with some great animation and creativity, shows us the goofy-odd insanity and yet dramatic works that is highly easily to get addicted to. With some great lovable characters as the cute and mysterious dried-up and 300 year old Koinosuke, or to the strange father of Jubei, Sai Nanohana, to the off the wall teachers that always turn out to be the enemy in disguise, many fans of anime will find something about Jubei-chan to get addicted to. Jubei chan is a 26-episode series that is currently being released in the US by Bandai. This high-packed full of energy series shifts without warning from being comedy, drama, action and full of heart-pounding moments, romance, so fast it will make your head spin. Jubei is a high-energy and fast-pacing series! Director and writer Akitaro Daichi, always wanted to tell a story about his childhood hero, Yagyu Jubei. Aired in 1999 in Japan, from the manga that ran in the AX magazine with art and character designs by "Mutthiri Moony". If you love parodies, then this show somewhat might be for you The story begins when 300 years ago after a fatal swordfight and the old dude Jubei is dying. He gives his disciple Koinosuke a heart shaped eyepatch and makes him swear to find a person honorable to wear the darn thing and not rest until they are found. Before the old dude dies, he croaks out the words so to help his disciple find this person, along the lines of: "Bonny Boom Boom Bum". (dirty old man ne?:) Now, we cut to present day Tokyo, and we meet with Jiyu Nanohana, who lives with her father Sai; a novelist. Jubei, a young fifteen year old girl would rather be out riding her bike or cooking fried eggs, instead of battling enemies, seems to be thrusted into the world of Yagyu Jubei, the old samurai who's spirit possesses her when she puts on the lovely eyepatch. Typical and bouncy teenager, and loved by many who seem to have a knack for falling in love with her chest first, finds her destiny is already written for her. Jubei is an eight grader, and not happy having been selected to wear the lovely eyepatch. On the first day of school, the 300-year old Koinosuke finds her and tracks her down; literally! Not giving up along the lines of how annoying sometimes Tamahome and Miaka call out each other's name, Koinosuke yells out and follows Jubei wherever she goes saying such things as: "Jubei! Jubei! The lovely eyepatch!" ETC.... Or, "Jubei! You forgot your lovely eyepatch!". Koinosuke seems to grow on ya, and is my favorite character so far. He's a cute and dried up old 300 year old egg-loving dude! Another cool thing about the show, it sort of catches ya off guard to such things as great animations, to other scenes involving crayon scribble drawings. Very unique and just an easy show to get obsessed with, Jubei seems to be something so different from other anime shows. When Jubei puts the eyepatch on, she seems to be a totaly different person, whcih she sort of is. ^.^ And defeating the enemy, they usualy walk away from the fights afterwards and talk about becoming singers or farmers instead. ^_^ These enemies Jubei seems to be fighting these days come from the Ryujoji clan, who was in some fued with Jubei, the old dude of so long ago. What is so different about the romance in this is that the most popular boy in the school who is in love with Jubei chan, is that he is a Ryujoji! The show is like a wild rollarcoaster ride! With enough zanny supporting cast of characters made up of lovesick schoolboys and a variety of nuts. What I also love about the show is the heartpounding transformation scenes where the music is going and she gets all kickin' with a spirit of this Jubei possessing her! A show not to be missed! |
