When Tim Drake was little more than a toddler, his parents, Jake and Janet Drake, took him to see the circus. Coincidentally it was the very same Halys Circus to which the acrobatic trio The Flying Graysons belonged. Little Tim even had his picture taken with the Flying Graysons, and got to sit on nine-year-old boy acrobat Dick Graysons knee. Tim was in awe of Dick, especially when he witnessed him do an amazing maneuver during the show the quadruple flip as the ringmaster announced that the boy was the youngest person ever to master that stunt. It was during the same show that Tim saw Dick's parents fall to their deaths from the trapeze, followed by Batman's arrival on the scene. As young as little Timmy was, he never forgot the incident. A couple years later, while watching news footage of the

Penguin's defeat by Batman and his new partner Robin, Tim witnessed Robin perform Dick Grayson's quadruple somersault. Tim realized that Dick had become Robin! Further research revealed that, six months after the night Batman had taken Dick Grayson away, Grayson had become the ward of millionaire Bruce Wayne and Robin had made his first appearance. Being a very bright lad, it didn't take long for Tim to figure out that Batman was then Bruce Wayne, the wealthy bachelor who had taken Dick in after the deaths of the boys parents. Because of unique circumstances coupled with intuition and insights only a child can have, Tim had inadvertently uncovered Batman and Robin's greatest secret! Tim kept the secret to himself, however, because Batman and Robin were his heroes! So he followed the careers of Batman and Robin with his special insight. He was aware of Dick's move to New York and subsequent transition into Nightwing, as well as when Bruce Wayne adopted another young orphan named Jason Todd and subsequently Robin "reappeared".

But after reading about Jason's death, Tim began to notice that something was wrong with Batman. He had become more violent and cruel, and sent criminals to the hospital for no reason. Tim believed that Batman's self-destructive behavior after Jason's death was due to the fact that Batman needed a Robin to help keep him sane. He sought out Dick Grayson and tried to get him to resume his role as Robin, but Dick knew that phase of his life was over for good. Still, Dick had to admit that this impressive kid had a point about what Robin meant to Batman. Dick agreed to help as Nightwing and he and Tim insinuated themselves on Batman. Then, leaving Tim safely with Alfred, to be dealt with later, Batman and Nightwing went off to put a halt to Two-Faces current activities. But Batman needed Robin, and Tim knew it. With more than a little help from Alfred, Tim donned the Robin guise and trailed Batman and Nightwing to the home built by Two-Face's father. Two-Face had blown it up to kill the two heroes. With Tim's help, Batman and Nightwing escaped the destruction, and defeated Two-Face. With quite a bit of convincing, and help from Nightwing and Alfred, Tim convinced Batman to train him as the next Robin despite Bruce's serious reservations.

Tim spent the next months learning detective skills, self defense, and anything and everything he could from watching Batman in action. Though the physical was more difficult for Tim, he excelled in the mental studies Tim's parents were rarely around as they had left their son at a Gotham boarding school. Consequently, Bruce Wayne made arrangements to have Tim visit him frequently, during which time the boy trained in secret under Batman's watchful eye. Drake also studied under Dick

Grayson for a time, as only a former Robin could show Tim how to become Batman's partner. Dick nurtured and supported Tim's desire to become Robin, helping ease him into the role as well as deal with Bruce's distant manner. While Tim was just beginning his training as Robin, Jack and Janet Drake were kidnapped in a charter flight over Haiti by a voodoo magician named Lord Obeah. 10 million dollars were asked for them to Drake Industries, the company that Jack owned. Batman tried to rescue the Drakes, but both drank poisoned water that killed Janet and put Jack into a paralytic coma (out of which he survived and recovered eventually). Now hungering to take up the fight against crime like never before, Tim was retrained by Batman, who was determined not to repeat the mistakes he'd made with Jason Todd, which had been putting the boy into action too soon, before he was prepared. So it would be a while before Tim actually implemented his skills as Robin. But eventually Tim would go into action against Batman's orders. Tim knew that this would end his dream of becoming Robin, but it had to be done to save Batman's life from the hands of Scarecrow. Even so, Tim rescued Batman and others wearing street clothes and a ski mask, unwilling to risk discrediting the identity of Robin the Boy Wonder. Surprisingly, instead of rejecting Tim, Batman responded to his heroic actions by putting him on active duty as Robin.

Batman and Nightwing designed a new Robin costume for Tim, both to provide him with state of the art protection and tools, and to somewhat reduce the burden that the history of the old costume carried with it. Now Tim wears a new Robin costume that has plenty of weapons and micro-instruments and is capable of protecting Tim from bullets. Batman even designed a vehicle named the Redbird that has as much equipment as his own Batmobile has, much to Robins delight. And just like every cool non-powers superhero, he also posesses a motocross bike. Tim was then allowed to travel to Europe to further hone his talents. There, Tim studied combat under teachers unknown even to Batman and learned certain skills that are now uniquely his. He learned man hunting from Henri Ducard and fighting skills from Lady Shiva, who gave him his Bo staff. Drake has more trouble dealing with his alter-ego more than any other member of the Bat-family. He hated lying to his father and girlfriend, Arianna, and he always had to sneak out of the house or make fast, nonsensical getaways. To add to his already hectic life was the intervention of the Spoiler: Stephanie Brown, an rookie vigilante who had only started the business to get back at her crime-lord father. And because she thought Robin was exceptionally cute. As expected, Spoiler began tagging along with Tim despite his efforts to send her home. She didn't seem to mind that he knew her identity while she knew zilch about him. The ever-present flirt, Steph often got herself into trouble and Robin

would often need to bail her out. However as time went on, she had a chance to prove herself, and ended up rescuing Robin for a change. Against his will, Tim felt himself developing feelings for the blonde. He continued to have several adventures with Steph, sharing a kiss or two along the way. For a long time Tim felt extremely guilty about liking someone that wasn't Arianna, but their relationship didn't seem to be getting better anyway. His guilt didn't have to last long though, as eventually Arianna broke up with Tim, and Drake found himself "dating" the Spoiler. Of course he wouldn't compromise Batman's identity, so his own remained a secret. Again, Steph didn't seem to mind, and Tim really began to enjoy himself and his relationship with his new girlfriend.

Life is good, right? Wrong. Hello, nothing in a superhero's world can stay right for long. The blow? A week after Robin was officially dating Steph, she revealed that she was pregnant from a previous boyfriend. Ouch. However, she also told him that the father was out of the picture, so though Tim was still a bit unsure of the situtation, he vowed to stay by Steph every step of the way. What a sweetie. Tims father then decided Keystone (home of The Flash) would be a safer place to reside, considering the rise in crime since the Cataclysm, so naturally Tim had to move with him. While adjusting to the move and change of scenery - and the cops who didn't recognize him - Steph had her baby and Tim, with Flash's help, made it there in time to comfort her in her decision to give the baby up for adoption. Drake managd to convince his father to move back to Gotham, and the plans were in the waking when No Man's Land occured, and Gotham was cut off from the United States. As Robin, Tim had to sneak away from home to help Batman restore order. However his dad freaked once he realized he wasnt on a road trip to New York, and has since taken a stricter stance on his son, which makes it even harder to sneak out and roam the night as Robin. Tim has done a good job managing to make due and doesnt falter in his nightly duties, especially now that he's home in Gotham. Tim also acquired a new step-mom in Dana, his father's former physical therapist. The relationship was a bit rocky at first, but Tim has recently admitted that hes starting to see Dana as a real part of the family now. Also in recent times, Robin was shocked to discover that Batman had told Tim's identity to Steph - without even asking him! An angry, hurt Tim decided to break it off with Spoiler, and now whenever they run into each other, well...you could cut the tension with a knife.

Robin is also currently the leader of Young Justice, a team of young heroes his age, a few members including Superboy, Impulse, and Wonder Girl. Drake seems he gets along with Batman better than anyone else does! He is a dedicated pupil under the Dark Knight and has worked hard to gain his respect, which indeed her has. They have a strong hero/sidekick, boss/employee, mentor/student relationship, but there are also times where they get close to being father/son, or even friends. Tim has a big brother/little brother relationship with Dick. He admires him, respects him, loves to ask him for advice and tease him about his ex-girlfriends. They have gotten very close over the years and will always value the other and their opinions. Tim is also becoming good

buddies with the new Batgirl, Cassandra Cain. Robin's got a knack for making friends, it seems, even if he isn't as loud as Dick is. He's managed to become friends with the volatile and dangerous Huntress, who talks back to Batman and anyone else who doesn't treat her the way she'd like. Robin has to admit that with all her unpredictability he likes her. Maybe it's because of his age, maybe because he deduced her i.d. but wouldn't even tell Batman, or maybe even because he attends the school she used to teach at (of course she doesn't know it), but Robin has the privilage of being on Huntress' good list, even working with her a few times, much to Batman's dismay.

Tim is an impressive Robin, even to Batman, because is brave, yet never reckless. He can be trusted to act unsupervised without getting in over his head. He follows orders and never gets cocky. Tim always has his head in the game, and actually turns out more likely to save Batman than need rescuing himself. Drake has even turned out to be a match for some of Batman's most dangerous foes even when working solo. Timothy is outgoing, independent, skilled, and smart. These are also qualities that perhaps make him the best Robin ever. He's not overconfident, which was obviously the problem with the previous Robin. He's not full of the wisecracks either (although a sort of transformation does come over him when he puts the costume on - he tends to be a bit more adventurous); Drake may not be as sociable as Grayson was as Robin, but he makes up for it with his individuality. He's brainy into computers and books. He likes being a detective more than comic relief, though he does help to lighten the mood. He's like a really superathletic nerd in many ways. A little more mature than his predecessors, he is less likely to allow his emotions to govern his actions and is a more-than-capable partner to the Batman.

There is something else that makes Drake stand out from the rest. Tim is perfectly happy being the sidekick. Sure its fun to go solo every once in a while, but Tim knows hell never be Batman nor will he be Robin all his life, and he is perfectly content with that. POWERS AND ABILITIES Like everyone else in the Bat-Family, Robin posesses no special power, unless you count brain-power as such. Tim is a sharp detective and a quick thinker, skilled when it comes to computers, books, and analytical problem-solving. Unless it's girls. His love of learning gets him teased as a geek sometimes, but that's why he's so likeable. Tims intelligence is probably only surpassed by one thing his athletic ability. Robin is a superb crimefighter, trained in martial arts and acrobatics.Tim has studied many different martial arts forms, under the tutelage of Batman, Lady Shiva and several other martial arts masters. An excellent gymnast as well, Tim is certainly more athletic then any other child his age. Robin's costume, fireproof and bulletproof, as well as his utility belt, contains numerous weapons that help him in his fight against crime, the most notable of which are his sling and his collapsible staff. Tim also carries jumplines, grappels, lock-picks, batarangs, and other gadgets. His suit also features a reversible camouflage-oriented cape, a Kevlar vest and an assortment of compartments filled food and electronic hardware. See a detailed diagram of the suit here.

PERSONAL THOUGHTS I adore Tim. I really do. I love his big heart and how he's too smart for his own good, and he can be such a nerd sometimes! I love how he seems to worry about everyone but him and how he can be friends with people even social butterfly Dick can't seem to stay on the good list with. I love the fact that everyone (both good and evil) is trying to turn his life upside-down and he's still got a clear head on his shoulders. I love how much everyone teases him and all the nicknames he has to put up with. I love how he gets to be the first and only Robin ever to wear tights. And I love how pathetic that last line sounded. Tim rocks my socks off.
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
MUSIC STYLE Tim is mostly mellow when it comes to his music choices; his radio is mostly programmed to the Olidies station or soft rock for driving. But he's also a bit of a closet rock nut, so his music style also includes that of Jars of Clay, Cadet, and Todd Agnew.
