We sure were glad to be by that old graveyard! It gave us the creeps! If we could make it this far we could make it to that house at the edge of town!
Ever since I can remember I was told the old Crane house was haunted. Mrs Crane lived there with her son. She had to be 100 years old! No one ever saw them in town! At least the three of us had never seen them.
We heard that her husband hung himself in the barn forty years ago. The ghost of Mr Crane could be seen roaming the grounds at night.
I could picture Mrs Crane standing by a brewing pot; stirring up her witches brew!
Every time something bad would happen in town you would hear,"That old witch Crane is at it again!"
The son was said to be locked away in the basement. That he was never allowed to leave the house. We could only imagine what he looked like.
We were only two blocks away! We could see the house. Our palms were sweaty and our voices were no more than a whisper! Were we scared? You bet we were scared! You would be too if you saw that house!
As we reached the gate we looked at each other. "Do you really want to go up there?", Carla asked. Both Jill and I replied at the same time, "Sure!" We had came this far why turn back now! We slowly walked up the path to the house. We were at the front door. I was just about to ring the doorbell when I got the scare of my life. Out from around the corner of the house, running right in front of us, came....
.......a cat! It scared the pants off us. We made a mad dash for the road! I was ready to go home, but Carla and Jill still wanted to go back up to the house!
Up the path we went again. This time Jill would be the one to ring the bell!
