Each year the Knights of Columbus
awards millions of dollars in scholarships and
fellowships at the college and graduate levels. Grants
are made by the Supreme Council, by State Councils and
by individual Local Councils. Contact your Local Council for

The Knights of Columbus Supreme
Council has awarded 627 college and post-graduate
scholarship and fellowship grants for the 1999-2000
academic year and distributed scholarship funds totaling
approximately $1.3 million. For the same period, the
Knights of Columbus at all levels awarded college and
postgraduate scholarships totaling $8.6 million. An
additional $6 million was expended to support Catholic
schools in various ways. Of the funds distributed by
the Supreme Council, $397,000 was specifically earmarked
for religious vocational studies by 159 scholarship grant
recipients. The Knights of Columbus at all levels of the
organization spent approximately $7 million to promote
vocations, support seminarians and religious postulants
either directly or through scholarships, and in direct
support for seminaries.

Fourth Degree
Pro Deo and
Pro Patria
Scholarships
|
The Knights of Columbus awards
annually sixty-two Fourth Degree Pro Deo and Pro Patria
Scholarships in the amount of $1,500 each to students
entering the freshman class in a college program leading
to a bachelor's degree. Twelve scholarships are available
at the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C.
Fifty scholarships are available to students entering
other Catholic colleges in the United States. To be eligible, an
applicant must be a member in good standing of the
Knights of Columbus, the son or daughter of such a member
or a deceased member, or a member in good standing of the
Columbian Squires.
The scholarships
are awarded on the basis of academic excellence and are
renewable each year of study to a total of four years
pending satisfactory academic performance.

Fourth Degree
Pro Deo and
Pro Patria
Scholarships
(Canada)
|
The Knights of Columbus awards
annually twelve Fourth Degree Pro Deo and Pro Patria
(Canada) Scholarships in the amount of $1,500 each to
students entering the first year of university study
leading to a baccalaureate degree at colleges or
universities in Canada. To be eligible, an applicant must be
a member in good standing in a Canadian council of the
Knights of Columbus or the son or daughter of such a
member or a deceased member.
The scholarships,
awarded on the basis of academic excellence, are
renewable each year of undergraduate study to a total of
four years pending satisfactory academic performance.

Trust
Scholarships
|
The Knights of Columbus established
the Francis P. Matthews and John E. Swift Educational
Trust Fund to provide scholarships for sons and daughters
of members in good standing who died or became
permanently and totally disabled:
- While serving
in the military from a cause connected directly
with military service during a period of
conflict.
- As a result
of criminal violence while in the lawful
performance of their duties as full-time law
enforcement officers or full-time firemen.
The Educational
Trust Scholarships are for undergraduate studies in a
program leading to a bachelor's degree at a Catholic
college and include the amount not covered by other
financial aid for tuition, room, board, fees and books.
A candidate for
benefits is required to submit supporting documents to
establish eligibility. The Knights of Columbus membership
record is verified at the Supreme Council Office.

Bishop
Charles P. Greco
Graduate
Fellowships
|
The Knights of Columbus awards
annually the Bishop Charles P. Greco Graduate Fellowships
for full-time graduate study leading to a Master's degree
in a program designed for the preparation of classroom
teachers of mentally retarded children. The maximum amount of the
grant is $2,000 payable to the university in amounts not
to exceed $500 per semester.
To be eligible, an
applicant must be a member in good standing of the
Knights of Columbus or the wife, son or daughter of such
a member or deceased member.

Student
Loan
Program
|
The Knights of Columbus is a
lender under
the Guaranteed Student Loan Program.
To qualify for a student loan, the Knights of Columbus
requires that borrowers be members of the Order in good
standing, their wives,
sons or daughters; or widows or
children of deceased members, in
good standing at the time
of their death. Loans are also
available to priests, nuns and
seminarians, without reference to Knights of Columbus membership
qualifications.
