Grand Knight’s Message                                           June 2004
by Norm Corriveau

Since my term as Grand Knight ends on June 30th,  I want to take this opportunity to express my most sincere gratitude to all of you for a very pleasant fraternal year.  I dearly appreciate the support and hard work you extended in reaching out to others and being of service:  the living out of our knighthood for the greater glory of God.

I thank most especially my officers who were most valuable to me for their input of ideas and for their unconditional dedication.   What a Team!

State Convention

At the State Convention,  I proudly accepted for all of you, St. Mary’s Council 11690 of Norton,  the State Family Activity Award of the year, for the wonderful work we did at the Parish Picnic of September 14, 2003.

It was acknowledged that our St. Mary’s Council 11690 received three Charity Fund Grants in the past year, in the total amount of $15,000,  the most given to any council.  This should motivate us to work harder at the next Tootsie Roll Drive.  Last October,  we presented the State Council with a check in the amount of $4,221.17.

Twenty-one resolutions were passed.  The last one decreased our “per capita” levy by 10 cents, down to $7.75 per member for the coming fraternal year:  thanks to the success of the Massachusetts State Raffle.

More information will be reported at our next regular business meeting of June 9th, at which meeting we will elect our Council Officers for the new fraternal year, starting July 1, 2004.  Hoping to see you there,

Vivat Jesus,

Norm Corriveau

Mass for the Armed Forces

Our St. Mary’s Council is sponsoring a special Mass for our Armed Forces at the 11:00 AM Mass on Sunday, June 13, 2004, the eve of our National Flag Day.  We hope you and your family will attend this special Mass in honor and in support of our Troops who are sacrificing so much for us and for our country.

The Mass will be celebrated by our Worthy Chaplain, Father Bob Oliveira. The Norton American Legion Post 222 will be present with a Color Corps.  Our own 4th Degree Assembly will also be present with its Honor Guard.

Refreshments will be served immediately after Mass.  We look forward to seeing you and your family there.

Mother’s Day Plant Sale

by Jim McEnaney

On Saturday, May 8th, 2004, our St. Mary’s Council held its 3rd Annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale at the Parish Center.  Several Brother Knights arrived at 6:30 AM to help set-up the canopies and tables and to unload the trailer full of plants.  We began selling the plants at 7:30 AM and finished around 2:30 PM.  There were many vivid and brilliant-colored hanging plants, flats of annuals for transplanting, and large-potted patio tomato plants;  all very good gifts for Mother’s Day.

Again, this plant sale was a huge success due to the support of many parishioners and Brother Knights with their friends.  Our Council’s treasury was increased by an additional $1,000.00.

I would like to thank the following Brother Knights for their assistance:  PGK Tom Jarbeau, PGK Tom Castello, John St. Martin, Peter Pino, Dave Carnevale, Jim Coulter, Peter Levesque, Jim O’Neill, Glenn Ringer, and especially J.P. Sirois for spending the entire day in helping out.

Senior Luncheon

by Frank McLaughlin

Our St. Mary’s Council ran its Seventh Annual Senior Luncheon at 1:00 PM on Saturday, May 8, 2004.  It was a great success!  Ninety-eight Norton Seniors came to enjoy a wonderful meal of baked stuffed chicken, baked fish, mashed potatoes, vegetables, tossed salad, and pudding for dessert.

It was a pleasure for us to put this on for such a worthy cause.  Of course, as always, this would not be possible if not for the hard work of our Brother Knights.  I want to thank GK Norm Corriveau,  DGK Norvel Cason,  Chaplain Fr. Bob Oliveira,  PGK Paul Grenier,  Don Thibeault,  Dave Carnevale,  Frank DelGiudice,  Peter Pino and his wife Marie,  Mike Rota and his wife Judy,  and last but not least my good friend John Kilroy.   John spent two days with me in buying food, cooking, cleaning, and serving.  I cannot thank him enough.

K of C Insurance

By Field Agent, Jim Keady

Today you are giving your children the best education you can buy. Today your wife is living comfortably and not worrying about making ends meet. Will that be the scenario when you are gone?

If you have life insurance, the answer is a definite yes.

With life insurance your family is taken care of as if you are still with them. The family won’t have the financial burden that comes with the passing of the breadwinner. Life insurance will be there to handle all the family financial needs. There is no undue stress on the family. Isn’t that how you would want it?

The end result? Life goes on for your family almost as if you were still there. And that’s a gift of love.

Roger Williams Park Zoo

St. Mary’s Council 11690 made a group venture to Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence on Sunday, May 16, 2004.  Eight families (14 adults & 13 kids) came together at 1:00 PM to explore an exotic world of more than 150 species of rare and fascinating animals.  It took us 3 hours to cover the major areas of the zoo.  The kids, young and old, had a grand time observing the mannerisms of each species.

Thanks to Paul and Linda Schleicher for the 61 photos they took.
