Grand Knight’s Message                                           May 2004
by Norm Corriveau

We Catholics recognize the month of May as the month dedicated to Our Blessed Mother.  Mary is the best of mothers;  she is the Mother of God.  And, Jesus, from the Cross,  gave her to all of us.  No matter how old we are, we are always her beloved little ones.  She cares very much and will guide us to our heavenly Home.

Catholic Charities Appeal

Our Diocese of Fall River is now celebrating its 100th Anniversary.  What better gift can we make than to share more generously in its many charitable services and programs, that reach out and touch the lives of those very dear to Our Lord and His Blessed Mother:  those who have less and need healing from their broken lives?

This year’s Catholic Charities Appeal runs from May 2nd to June 17th, 2004.

Kudos

·          Thanks to our Advocate, Peter Pino, for chairing the revision of our Council’s By-Laws.

·          Thanks to all the Knights and their family members who joined together to celebrate our Corporate Mass at 8:00 AM on Divine Mercy Sunday.

·          Thanks to Frank McLaughlin and his kitchen crew for cooking up a very generous Communion-Breakfast on April 18th.

·          Thanks to all the Knights who got actively involved in our Annual State Raffle, and to its co-chairs, PGK Mark Bowditch and Fred Pope.

·          Congratulations to Matthew Tatarczuk and his wife Catherine on the birth of their son, Ryan Matthew, on Friday, April 16th.

Congratulations to Robert Diestel for making his 2nd Degree on Tuesday, April 27th.

Vivat Jesus,

Norm Corriveau

New Charity Award

Four-year-old Sarah Caffelle of Norton is the recent recipient of a Charity Award from our State Council of Knights of Columbus,  in the amount of $4,000.00 to help cover the cost of two hearing aids.

This is the third Charity Award granted by our State Council to residents of Norton within the past 10 months.  It is certainly gratifying to see the fruits of the effort we put into our October Tootsie-Roll Drives.  On October 24, 2003,  we presented to the State Council a check in the amount of $4,221.17.  Like the saying goes: “What goes around comes around”.  Good work,  Worthy Brother Knights!

Reporting on Council’s Corporate Mass

Our St. Mary’s Council held its Eastertide Corporate Mass on Divine Mercy Sunday at the 8:00 AM Mass.  It was great to see so many Knights celebrate Mass together.  The Divine Mercy Prayer was read by GK Norm Corriveau before the Final Blessing.

The Cardinal O’Connell Assembly of Fourth Degree Knights joined us with an Honor Guard consisting of Commander Chris Gilday,  Faithful Navigator Paul Grenier,  PFN’s Gerald Graziano & Norm Corriveau;  SK’s Donald Thibeault, John Meyer, and Fred Kippenhan.

Frank McLaughlin and his kitchen crew awaited us at the Parish Center with a plentiful Communion-Breakfast.

Prayer Requests

Let us continue to pray for our Brother Knights and their family members who are experiencing physical ailments:

·          Donald Spencer

·          Charles McDonald

·          Richard Charette

·          Maryann Daley

·          newborn Ryan Tatarczuk

Let us pray for the repose of the soul of Thomas W. Levis, who died on April 28th. He is the brother of John Levis, a member of our St. Mary's Council 11690.

Reporting on the Communion -Breakfast

By Frank McLaughlin

On Sunday, April 18th, approximately 80 people came to enjoy the meal prepared by our dedicated Brother Knights.  We had scrambled eggs, bacon, breakfast sausage, linguica, chourico, ham, home fries, toasts, pancakes, doughnuts, fruit salad, orange juice, apple juice, coffee and tea.  For those who missed it, plan on attending next year’s Communion-Breakfast.

Special thanks to Father Bob Oliveira, PGK Mark Bowditch, PGK Tony Medeiros DD, GK Norm Corriveau, Norvel Cason, Jim McEnaney, Dave Carnevale, John Kilroy, and Jim O’Neill.  Without their help, this would not have been possible.  Thanks also to other Knights who helped in various ways.

Reporting on the Lantern Award

This year’s Lantern Award was presented to LaSalette Father Philip Salois on Patriot’s Day at the Sheraton Framingham.  Before his ordination to the Priesthood, he served in the combat zones of Vietnam, surviving in miraculous situations.  Today, Father Salois serves as Chief Chaplain to Vietnam veterans.

It was a great meal and celebration with the presence of Archbishop Sean O’Malley,  Bishop O’Donnell, and Bishop Reilly.  Those in attendance from our St. Mary’s Council were:  GK Norm & Rachelle Corriveau;  PGK Tony Medeiros, DD, and his wife Johanna;  PGK Tom Castello, DW, and his wife Christine;  PGK & FN Paul & Debbie Grenier;  PGK John & Lucile Drane; Norvel Cason, Frank McLaughlin, and Joe Daley.

Reporting on the Parish Clean-up

We had 15 Knights who came forward to help in beautifying our church grounds, and those of the rectory and parish center.  With 5 wheelbarrows rolling, the huge mounds of mulch soon disappeared within 2 hours.  Thanks to all of you!  We only wish someone had a camera to catch Norvel on his hands and knees, crawling among the yellow blooms of the forsythia shrubs.
