Grand Knight’s Message                                           April  2004
by Norm Corriveau

Lent is a good time to do our “Spring Cleaning” in preparation for joyfully celebrating Easter.  Our faults and failings have probably cluttered up the temple of the soul:  the cobwebs of selfish attitudes,  the smudges of impatience,  and the dust of negligence.

The Lord loves us so much,  and He comes to us in the Eucharist.  Let us spruce up and decorate for His “visit”.

Hope you and your family can attend the Holy Week Services;  Holy Thursday commemorates Our Lord’s Last Supper when He instituted the Eucharistic Sacrifice of His Body and Blood, so that He could remain with us throughout our journey of this earthly life.

Our Council’s Blood Drive

Thanks to our 15 Knights who gave of themselves on Wed., March 24th to help those in medical need.  Thanks also to six relatives of our Knights who donated blood.  Thanks to Fred Pope who chaired this Community Activity and to the volunteers who helped out.

We did well in getting 62 pints of blood, since Solmonese School held their Blood Drive just 4 weeks earlier.

Corporate Mass & Communion-Breakfast

On Sunday April 18th,  our St. Mary’s Council 11690 will gather together at the 8:00 AM Mass to celebrate our Corporate Mass as described in our Council By-Laws, Article VIII, Section 4.  This is Divine Mercy Sunday.  Let our hearts be filled with hope.  Breakfast will then be served at the Parish Center, following this Mass.  Tickets are $5 per person, with no charge for children aged 7 and under; and with a cap of $20 per family.  Tickets will be sold after each Mass on the weekend of April 3-4th and on Easter Sunday, April 11th.  Or, you may call me @ 508-285-3755 before April 14th to make reservations.

Massachusetts K of C Pro-Life Rosary & Mass

To honor Our Blessed Mother on starting the Month of Mary,  our State Council officers have organized this event at nearby LaSalette Shrine in Attleboro, on Saturday, May 1st.  The Rosary will be recited at 3:00 PM, followed by the Mass at 4:30 PM.;  the Presider and Homilist is the renown Father Tom DiLorenzo.  Let us make a serious effort to join our Brother Knights from all Councils of Massachusetts;  the Shrine is only 4 or 5 miles from us.

Vivat Jesus,

Norm Corriveau

Special Recognition

                                                                        For February 2004

The following were recognized at the March 10, 2004 business meeting for their outstanding service:

Knight of the Month

Robert St.Martin

Family of the Month

The James McEnaney Family

K of C Traveling Icon of Divine Mercy

On Sunday, March 21st, our St. Mary’s Council had the K of C Divine Mercy Icon, which was personally blessed by Our Holy Father Pope John Paul II.  At each Mass, the Divine Mercy Icon was carried by a Knight in procession with the Celebrant and placed in the Sanctuary for all to venerate.

This Icon of Divine Mercy, as revealed to Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska in the 1930’s for the serious conversion of souls, is being circulated by the Knights of Columbus since October 2003.  Each Council has the opportunity to bring the Divine Mercy to their Parish and spend an Hour of Prayer.

At 3:00 PM, GK Norm Corriveau led the Divine Mercy Prayer Hour along with our Chaplain Father Bob Oliveira before the exposed Blessed Sacrament.  Each person in attendance was given the Prayer Program Booklet, prepared and sponsored by the Supreme Office of Knights.  The service included lectionary readings, a homily, the recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet and of the Praises of the Divine Mercy.

Reporting on St. Patrick’s Day Dinner

By PGK Mark Bowditch

On March 13th, our Council once again held our now famous corned-beef-and-cabbage dinner, serving up a great meal to about 125 guests.  As always, this was a great event for our Council and Parish.

To pull off a dinner like this takes a lot of work.  And, I want to thank all the Knights and their families who helped out.  We had a tremendous showing of volunteers;  it made this event easy to chair.  So, thanks for all your help.  I want to especially thank Maurice Soares, Mark Switzer, and the rest of the kitchen crew for the outstanding job they did;  the food was really great.

I also want to thank Marianne Travers and Suzanne Keane for their great Irish Step-dance performance.  It really topped the night off. Photo's from the dinner.

Prayer Requests

Let us pray for the repose of John Kilroy’s father who was called home to the Lord, on Ash Wednesday, February 25th.

PGK John Drane was unexpectedly hospitalized on Sat. March 27th for a couple of days.  Donald Spencer has been stricken with some kind of infection that stirred up many concerns.  Let us keep them all in our daily prayers.

On Praying

By Fr. Henri Nouwen

“Why, O Lord, is it so hard for me to keep my heart directed toward you?  Why do the many little things I want to do keep crowding into my mind?  Why does my mind wander off in so many directions?  Are You not enough for me?

Please accept my distractions, my fatigue, my irritations, and my faithless wanderings.  You love me with a greater love than I can love myself.  Look at me;  see me in all my inner confusion.  Let me sense Your presence in the midst of my turmoil.”
