Comments
As we
move into summer, our schedule of events finally slows down until September,
starting with our Installation of Officers, planning for our Tootsie Roll Drive
and annual Norton Parade. If all
Brother Knights participated in at least 2 – 3 events per year, we would have
a much better representation of our membership.
The 80/20 rule applies to our council, as 80 percent of the work is done
by 20 percent of our membership. By
involving new members and calling inactive members, the burden on the 20 percent
will be reduced and hopefully eliminate any burnout.
Final
Thoughts
As I
complete my final newsletter, and near my final days in office as Grand Knight,
I realize there is much work to be completed.
As I look over the past year, we have run in excess of 40 events at the
council level and another 12-15 on the state level. Most of the events were very successful, however, a couple
never materialized for whatever reasons. We
must continue our mission of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism.
I ask that you give our Grand Knight Elect and the new slate of Officers
your support, so that we can carry on our mission.
I would like to thank the State Officers for their support, especially
with their help in our charity award, our District Deputy and Warden and all
Brother Knights for their support. Most
especially, I want to thank my family for the understanding (sometimes) of the
duties of the Grand Knight.
Vivat
Jesus,
Paul
Grenier

Steubenville East 2003
By Norm Corriveau
LaSalette Shrine in Attleboro
is again hosting two weekends in July for High School students who want to learn
more about our Catholic faith. The
speakers come from the Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio.
The two weekends are July 11th to 13th
and July 18th to 20th.
Both weekends are booked solid with a total of 5500 participants.
Our Council 11690 has been asked to help with
volunteers, in any range of activity, at any time, between noon on Friday and
noon on Sunday. Help is needed in
the cafeteria, concessions, or supervision.
Volunteers work in teams, helping to make the activities run more
smoothly.
Our Council 11690 makes use of this great
opportunity to promote Youth activities in our Service Program.
The more volunteers we have, the more man-hours of service we render to
our Youth Programs.
For more info concerning the details of time and tasks, contact Norm
Corriveau at 508-285-3755.
Senior Luncheon
By Paul Grenier
We served our 6th annual senior
luncheon on May 10th to approximately 90 of Norton’s finest
citizens. I would like to thank
Roche Brothers for making this event possible, by donating the turkeys for our
turkey raffle. Also, I want to
thank Fina for her donation of the floral bouquets.
Tom Jarbeau was involved with the setup, donations by Fina, as well as
communication with the senior center. Frank
McLaughlin ran a tight ship in the kitchen.
I would like to thank both for a job well done, as well as all those who
helped participate in this worthy event.
Armed Forces Mass
By Frank McLaughlin
Our Council will sponsor an
Armed Forces Mass on Sunday, June 8th, 11 AM at our St. Mary’s Church.
The Mass will be celebrated by our Worthy Chaplain, Father Bob Oliveira.
Members of the 4th Degree Honor Guard, and hopefully a Color
Guard from the American Legion and V.F.W. will be present.
As this is an event sponsored by our Knights,
the Lector, the Eucharistic Ministers,
Altar Servers, and Ushers will all be Brother Knights.
The Mass is to be celebrated to thank and
remember all who have served in active or reserve status in the U.S. Armed
Forces, particularly in the past
few years from our own St. Mary’s Parish.
We also want to thank and honor the families of these men and women.
All Brother Knights and their families are
invited and encouraged to attend. We
owe a great debt of gratitude to the men, women, and families who have served us
so well. There is no better way to
accomplish this than to all come together in the celebration of a Mass.
Refreshments will be served immediately after Mass.
We look forward to seeing you all there.
A New Memorial to our K of C
By
Norm Corriveau
Sunday, May 25, 2003 will
stand out as a memorable day for our Knights of Columbus in Massachusetts,
especially for those who served our country in defending our God-given freedom.
At least 80 Knights from all parts of Massachusetts assembled at the
National Cemetery in Bourne to honor our country’s heroes.
We were in the company of VFW’s, American Legions, Vietnam Vets, Korean
Vets, AMVETS, etc…
Amid all the ceremonies of speeches and wreath-placings,
a new monument was dedicated to the Knights of Columbus who served our country.
This K of C Monument is among all the others in the Memorial Trail of the
National Cemetery. The officers of
our Massachusetts State Council were present for the dedication.
Our own Council 11690 was represented among the 3000 present:
FN Norm Corriveau and SK Donald Thibeault joined in forming a 60-member K
of C Honor Guard. Frank McLaughlin was also there with his wife and
granddaughter.
St. Vincent de Paul Society
By Norm Corriveau
Our St. Mary’s Conference
of Saint Vincent de Paul hosted this year’s Ozanam Day Celebration, which
included 12 parishes in the Attleboro District, on Saturday, May 17th.
It started with the 5:30 PM Mass at Church, followed by a reception and
banquet at our Parish Center. The
celebration counted 120 participants.
Our Council 11690 provided the meal as a
fundraiser. The meal was served
family-style, featuring stuffed chicken and roast beef.
Those who cooked the meal did an outstanding job.
We also thank all who served and helped with the clean-up.

parking lot, prior to the 1:05 PM

This event is always a great time for the whole family.
You can obtain tickets from Jack, at a cost of
$7.50 per seat, on a first-come

On Tuesday, May 27th,
a combination of First and Second Degree Exemplifications was held at the
Middleboro K of C Hall. There were
14 candidates for the First Degree and 31 candidates for the Second Degree.
Our congratulations to Brothers Frank Delgiudice
and Henry Comerford who both completed their knighthood in the Second Degree.
They were supported by the presence of our own DD Tony Medeiros, DGK Norm
Corriveau, Jack Camara, and Frank McLaughlin.
We also extend our best welcome to two new

Tarsa and Peter DeTrolio, who

Mother’s Day Plant Sale
By Jim McEnaney
On May 10, 2003, the Norton
Knights of Columbus held their 2nd annual Mother's Day Plant Sale at
the Parish Center on Route 123. Brother Knights began at 7:00 a.m. to set up our
tents, tables and unloading the trailer load of colorful assorted hanging plants
and perennial flats that had been arranged on consignment from Reed Brother's
Farm in Dighton, MA. The weather was cooperative as well as the many Knights,
Parishioners and Families who supported this event and who made many Mother's
happy by purchasing them a plant for Mother's Day.
This event proved to be a financial success, as
our Council raised $1055.00 to be used as general funds to operate our Council.
I would like to thank Tom Jarbeau, John Jarbeau,
Ed Groden, John Paul Sirois, Glenn Ringer, PGK Tom Castello, PGK Mark Bowditch,
Jack Camara and all other Brother Knights who provided their time to help this
event be a success.
