Elections
Please
plan on attending our May and June business meetings
as
our election process starts this month. At our May meeting, officer names are
listed
for the next fraternal year. Any brother can suggest a name for any officer position, including
his own. Anyone interested in an officers position, should contact the search committee as
soon
as possible. At our June business meeting, we will vote on the new slate of
officers.
Comments
As
we finally move into the warmer weather, let us not forget several significant
events
in
the month. Sunday, May 11th
is both Mother’s Day
and World Vocations Day. Monday, May
26th is Memorial Day, so as we enjoy a long weekend leading us into summer, let us not
forget our troops who have given their lives and defended our liberty not only in Iraq but
also
all over the world in all conflicts in our short history.

Trailer Clean Out
By
Paul Grenier
O
n Saturday, April 26th, we emptied
the trailer of all wood products and brought to New England Recycle in Taunton
for recycling. According to NER, we had 50 yards of wood and negotiated a price
of $600 for the disposition. By the time the newsletter goes to press, we should
have the trailer moved to the Little League site, and another problem will be
solved. I would like to thank Jim McEnaney, JP Sirois, Frank McLaughlin, John
Kilroy, John Golden,
Peter Pino, Fred Pope, Norm Corriveau and Paul Grenier who showed up in the rain
to help clean up this hugh mess. A special thanks to JP Sirois and Jim McEnaney
for the use of their trucks, and to Mark Bowditch and Joe Travers for
negotiating the transfer of the trailer to the Norton Little League.

W
e have two meals to
serve for the benefit of our Council; the Annual Senior Luncheon at 1:00 PM on
Saturday, May 10th, and the St. Vincent
DePaul Banquet at 7:00 PM on Saturday, May 17th, the latter being
a fundraiser. GK Paul Grenier and Frank McLaughlin will chair both events as
cooks. In addition, we need volunteers to help in serving both meals. We hope
that friends and family members of the Knights join us in helping out. Thanks.

B rother Knight Lenny went home to his Creator on Good Friday, April 18th. Those who knew him will confirm that he was a true Knight at heart. He strongly believed in being of service to his community and to his parish. He served on different town committees and about 17 years as selectman. He joined our Order of Knights at the age of 83 and made all 3 Degrees. I felt that he would have soared to the patriotic Fourth Degree if his health had been more stable. He was a man committed to being of service. I still remember when he would let me know that he needed more books of raffle tickets to sell for our Council. I also enjoyed visiting him to collect them; he wanted to help out as much as he could, always with a smile, even in his moments of ailing.

A
s Delegate of our
Council 11690 at the State Convention, I was more than pleasantly surprised, in
front of some 800 people, to receive from State Deputy Tom Ledbetter the Council
Activity Award for
our St. Mary’s Council of Norton. The award was granted to us, based on the
successful membership drive we held in January 2003. Our gratitude goes to all
those who worked hard and got involved in this membership drive, especially our
cochairs PGK Tom Castello and Bob Smith. Thanks also to our Publicity Director,
PGK Tom Jarbeau. The plaque will be shown at the May 14th
business meeting.
