CCC Year 1 Term 3, April - June 2006 My 3D animation project began by doing some research into the work of Claus Oldenberg, a multi-faceted artist most famous for taking objects and creating unnaturally large sculptures of them, and of recreating them in surprising materials. My initial inspiration was the Nintendo DS portable games console but, after leaving it at home I decided to change and use an object I wouldn't forget - my shelltoe Adidas shoe. Through my sketchbook work I eventually abstracted the shoe down to a few key parts and using my studies of the walk cycle animated the shoe through various evolutionarystages of movement beginning with swimming though slug-like crawling then finally to a full step and walk.
The wireframe render is also viewable here:
Also note that the two moving parts of the shoe are serperate, since at the time my knowledge of animating in 3DS Max was quite limited. I had planned to have multiple shoes performing the same movements, but time restraints prevented this. |
