
Project 001 - Cel Shading - July 2006 I've always wanted to cel-shade something. Just to get anything cel-shaded was my challenge for this project. After much research, I tried using a falloff material to simulate the effect. There are no images of it, because it didn't work. It would have, as the guide I was using showed it in action, my knowledge of 3DS Max is too limited to follow it. I decided to try another way. I searched the internet for various plugins that may achieve a similar effect. Finally I found a free plugin which worked well (link posted in the Links section.) Before using it, however, I built a small model that I would use later for other projects.
Based on the large mechs of the mechwarrior series of games, I figured it would be a good subject for cel-shading. Here are the results...
Pretty good, I'm sure you'll agree. Simce the plugin is so versatile it makes cel-shading very easy. The only problem I found was that it made the render time increase greatly, but the results are so good it's worth it. |
