Computer Repair
Course Description
Our
program is designed to prepare the student to sit for, and be
successful in passing the COMP-TIA A+ examination. COMP-TIA is an
international professional organization that tests computer repair
technicians. Candidates who receive A+ certification are in great
demand by corporate IT departments. Our course spans one year and
covers in detail all aspects covered by the exam. This includes:
hardware systems and components, memory systems, ports and sub-systems,
operating systems and commercial and occupational competencies.

Automotive Mechanics (Service Station Helper - Beginner)
Course Description
The field
of Automotive Maintenance and Repair has undergone a major revolution
in the past two decades. Though the automobile remains a mechanical
device, its function has been augmented by a host of electronic
components that monitor and adjust the mechanical components of most of
the vehicles systems. The engine, brakes, climate control,
entertainment and navigation systems have all undergone electronic
upgrades. As a result, today’s automobile `Mechanic’ must have more
then mechanical knowledge alone, or a combination of mechanical and
basic electronic skills. Today’s automotive technician must be fully
well versed in modern automotive computerized systems and computer
logic troubleshooting. This course covers electronic systems including
ABS (braking), air bag, fuel injection and sensor theory plus analysis
and testing of related on board computer functions. Nevertheless, the
fact remains that the ability to turn a wrench remains fundamental to
the maintenance and repair of automobiles today. Our program includes
diagnosis and repair of all components including alignment, brakes,
engines, exhaust and related accessories.

Carpentry (interior and exterior)
Course Description
Our Framing Carpentry program seeks to
prepare our students for entry level employment as carpenters in both
new construction and renovation applications. This course is designed
to provide hands-on installation of doors, windows, and roofing along
with interior finish operations such as drywall, trim - joinery and
molding. It also presents basic theory including occupational math,
trade related formulas designed to refresh basic mathematics skills
related to the trade of Carpentry. Students learn a production method
for translating blueprints to wall plates and framing a house from the
foundation up. An introduction to machine carpentry including how to
safely set up and use traditional shop tools such as the table saw,
drill press, jointer, thickness planer, radial arm saw, band-saw and
router are components of the curriculum.

Cosmetology
Course Description
The skills associated with cosmetology
have developed into an art witch is currently one of the most
successful small business initiatives. The curriculum for students
enrolled in a cosmetologist course shall consist of sixteen-hundred
(1,600) clock hours of technical instruction and practical operations
covering all practices constituting the art of cosmetology pursuant to
Section 7316 of the Barbering and Cosmetology Act. Technical
instruction means instruction given by demonstration, lecture,
classroom participation, or examination. Practical operation shall mean
actual performance by the student of a complete service on another
person or mannequin. It is noted that 653 hours are devoted to
clinical/theory experience, which shall include all phases of
cosmetology.

Medical Insurance Billing &
Coding Specialist
Course Description
One of the fastest growing fields in
Health Information Management is Medical Billing and Coding. The
Medical Billing and Coding Specialist program prepares individuals for
employment in the areas of medical insurance, physician's office
coding, and health care claims processing. This program also serves the
needs of health care personnel interested in upgrading their
professional skills. The Medical Billing & Coding Certificate
Program will prepare the student to work as a medical coder and biller,
electronic claims processor, reimbursement specialist, Medicare and
Medi-Cal billing specialist.
Students learn medical terminology,
medical law & ethics, principles and procedures of medical coding
and insurance/billing. Students completing this certificate
program will be eligible to sit for the Certified Coding Specialist
examination. Course work for the Certificate can be completed in two to
three semesters.
The Medical Billing & Coding
Certificate is awarded upon completion of the following classes:
Keyboarding (or equivalent by test), Introduction to Computers (or
equivalent by test), Word Processing, Medical Terminology &
Anatomy, Medical Records Clerk and the Insurance Clerk series of
classes.
