Aikido is a Japanese martial art that teaches self-defense.
Its core concepts are staying balanced within one's center
while simultaneously extending one's energy (ki) to redirect,
control and neutralize the power of an attack. Its techniques
include a variety of movements, joint locks, holds, throws,
and rolls. Aikido training consists of practicing ki development
and self-defense techniques with partners in a cooperative
atmosphere, and also includes the use of the staff (jo), sword
(bokken) and knife (tanto).
