Bell Work

Step 1 Explain:  When students enter the classroom they should put everything away except for their math journal and two sharpened pencils.  If pencils are not sharpened they should go get them sharpened.  Students should then open their journals and copy down the objective and homework for that day.  There will be two problems on the overhead to review material from the last class.  They should begin working on the problems with no talking.  On the first day of school this procedure will be demonstrated and given to them in a Welcome Back/Plan for the School-year handout.

Step 2 Rehearse:  This procedure will be demonstrated on the first day of class.  As we read through the Welcome Back handouts, each step will be discussed in great detail.  Students will be allowed to ask questions of any part of the procedure they don’t understand.  For the first week of class, I will monitor the student’s performance and guide them through this procedure.  As the year goes on they will be reminded of how the procedure is to be manipulated.

Step 3 Reinforce:  The procedure will be gone over until it is no longer needed.  The teacher will make positive remarks to the students when they are properly going through the procedures.  If the procedure is not being followed properly, the teacher will correct any wrong steps.

End of Class Dismissal

Step 1 Explain:  When there is 3 minutes left in class an alarm will sound.  When the alarm sounds the students will give all attention to the teacher.  They will be reminded of homework assignments and given the opportunity to put things away once all eyes are on the teacher.  When everyone has all their things together and the bell sounds, they will be dismissed as a class.  This procedure will be gone over for the first day of class, demonstrated and given to them in a Welcome Back/Plan for the School-Year handout.

Step 2 Rehearse:  The students will have this demonstrated to them on the first day of class.  As we read through our Welcome Back handouts each step will be gone over.  The students will have a chance to ask any questions.  This will be rehearsed for the first week with guidance through the procedure.  Throughout the year they will be reminded of the procedure when it needs to be gone over.

Step 3 Reinforce:  The procedure will be gone over step by step until it is no longer necessary.  When the students work the procedure properly they will be given positive remarks.  If the procedure is gone through incorrectly, the teacher will correct the wrong steps.

Turning in Assignments

Step 1 Explain:  When there has been homework or project assignments made, you are to turn them in when you walk in the classroom door.  There will be two baskets set up on top of your classes filing cabinet.  One basket is marked assignments and one basket is marked late assignments.  This procedure will be demonstrated on the first day and gone over when assignments are made and will be listed in the Welcome Back/Plan for the School Year Handout.

Step 2 Rehearse:  The student’s will have the procedure demonstrated to them on the first day of school as we read the section in our Welcome Back/Plan for the School Year Handout.  The students will be given the opportunity to ask any questions.  We will rehearse this procedure each time we turn in assignments.  Throughout the year they will be reminded of the procedure when it is gone over.

Step 3 Reinforce:  The procedure will be gone over step by step until it is no longer necessary.  When the students work the procedure properly they will be given positive remarks.  If the procedure is gone through incorrectly, the teacher will correct the wrong steps.
