15.2 Newspapers and Magazines A variety of English papers can be purchased; these include the Daily Yomiuri, Japan Times and Herald Tribune. They cost \120 - \150. Can be purchased at newspaper vendors at the train stations. To subscribe to them please follow instructions found in the newspapers. The Kansai Time Out (KTO) magazine is monthly and costs \240. It has some good articles and provides information on what is going on in the region for the month. It can be purchased at Maruzen, a bookstore that has a good selection of English books and magazines. Also available in Junkudo in Sannomiya. The Kansai Scene is a free magazine. It can be found in the KICC, KIP and Nailey�s Caf�. Again it provides information on events going on in the region for the month. The Kansai Flea Market is free and can be found in Maruzen and Polo Dog. It provides information on employment, events and sales. 15.3 Other reading The KICC, HIP, Kobe International Plaza (KIP), located in Gakuentoshi and Kobe Tourist Information Centre, located on Flower Road are good for information. For things you need to know about Japan, for language course materials and for current magazines and newspapers you can use the reference sections in the KICC, HIP and KIP. 15.4 Bookstores Kinokuniya � Locate in upper floor of Loft (Sogo Department Store, Annex Building). Junkudo � on the Center Gai and has a small selection of English books. There is also a branch in Gakuen Toshi, however the collection of foreign books is limited, but orders can be made. Powells � If you are want to save some money when buying books then try www.powells.com. If you order over $50 of books then they will ship them to you for free. It takes 6-8 weeks and you must pay using a credit card. Wantage Books � Used English bookstore in Shinkobe. Opens from 10am to 5pm, Monday to Friday. www.amazon.co.jp - has an English page, takes 1-2 days for in stock items, 5 days � 2 weeks for other items. Free shipping for orders over \1500. Tokyo Random Walk Bookshop (by Tom Cowdrey, ALT 2004-2007)- The best place in Kobe to buy English language books. They have fiction and non-fiction sections; including travel guides and a large section on Japan and Japanese culture. You can also buy magazines there and manga translated into English- useful for understanding about the characters students are interested in. To get there: Leave Motomachi station, turn right to exit the station, cross the big road. Turn left, cross a smaller road. Turn right and on your left is the covered shopping street Center gai. Turn into it and on your left is the bookshop on the 2nd floor. Take the entrance to the right of a shoe shop.
