General Info

The Japanese Post office is pretty much like a post office back home and very reliable. Things get done very quickly. Post office hours are 9AM to 5PM. Staff tend to be very helpful as well. If you speak Japanese all the better. If you don't speak Japanese, bring your JET diary with you. It will have all the information you need to communitcate with the workers.

At the post office you can buy stamps, postal boxes, and Expak500 envelopes. The post office does not sell regular envelopes, but these can be bought at any conbini or stationery store. Expak500 envelopes are insured envelopes you can buy for 500yen. They are for mailing important documents quickly and safely.

All post offices are equipped with ATMs that you can use with your international banking card or credit card from home.

Receiving Packages

It is quite common to miss packages in the mail since you will usually be at work when they are delivered. You will receive a slip in your mail slot saying the package could not be delivered because the you weren't home. Bring the slip to a fellow JET who speaks Japanese or bring it to work and have your JTE fill it out for you. It may also be more convenient to fill out the form so that your package is dilevered to your school. That way you don't have to stay at home waiting for the package to be dropped off.

This section will be updated with a scan of the form and how to fill it out.
