EVERETT FAMILY
1729--
Melbourn, Cambridgeshire, sits almost on the border with Hertfordshire.  The area is fairly flat, though there are  a couple of gentle hills nearby large enough to warrant inclusion on John Speede's map. It is close to Royston, the Hertfordshire market town, and the primary crop is wheat.

I tracked through the old parish register, now in Cambridge County Record Office, and pulled out every Everett or variant that I could find.  Much as I feel sure that "John Everid, son of John & Phebe, christened 29 Sept 1664, Melbourn" is one of 'our'
EVERETTs I have been unable to link him with any EVERETT who followed, so have to keep him on file, with a "? Possible?"
Therefore, this family tree commences with the marriage in 1729 of John
EVERATT and Elizabeth OLIVER.
John EVERATT (bur. 31-8-1775)  and  Elizabeth OLIVER  (bur 7-2-1768) were married on  22 Oct 1729 in  Melbourn Cambs.  There are two known children:
Susan
EVERIT was christened 15-10-1738 in Melbourn.  A few days later, a Susan Everit was buried in Melbourn.  There were no absolute identifiers, but the timing is too close, in times perilous for infants, so I believe she is "ours"
John
EVERIT was born about 1730 and was buried at age 67 on 30-4-1797 in Melbourn.  He married Elizabeth ROGERS on 5-8-1754 in Bassingbourn.  Elizabeth was born in Bassingbourn and was buried on 26-6-1791 in Melbourn.  They had the following known children:

Sarah
EVERIT was buried 29-10-1756 in  Melbourn.
John

John Dodkin
EVERITT was married to Isabella WAYMAN on 26-10-1826.  It seems possible that they had a daughter Ann but at this time I have no verified proof of her birth so will leave it until I do.  Isabella was buried on 5-12-1830.

John Dodkin
EVERITT married Sarah (STARR) ROSENDALE on 18-12-1832.  Sarah had been married to George ROSENDALE on 27-1-1828 and at 22 yrs  he was buried 26-10-1830, two months before birth of his daughter Maria (christened 5-1-1831at Chapelry of Kneesworth)   Maria lived with her mother and stepfather until her marriage to Journeyman Bricklayer Ellis JARMAN.  She had five known children:   Ann, Jane, Eliza, Samuel and Joseph Henry JARMAN.

Sarah and John Dodkin

Infant Male (born on board Duke of Richmond February 1853)

After the birth of her unnamed son, Sarah developed Puerperal Fever and was buried at sea  on 27-2-1853, four days from landfall at Portland, Victoria.
The shipping records--Dispositions--lists the family as
EVERETT so that is how the family name is spelled in Australia.
John Dodkin
EVERETT had worked all his life as an agricultural labourer--it must have been a triumph to state his profession as "farmer" when his youngest surviving son Isaac was married.  The first years in Australia must have been very difficult--John Dodkin, his son (also John Dodkin) and daughter Mary were all engaged to work for Angus Cameron on his property at Violet Creek near Hamilton.  The changeable March weather had contributed to the spread of infectious diseases in Portland at the time the family had disembarked, motherless and with a newborn and a two-year-old to care for.  Before they had reached Violet Creek, the baby and Alfred had died and were buried along the track.
The farming family from Cambridgeshire faced many hardships in Australia, but their descendants survive--which is what it is all about.  I list here the marriages of the new settlers

John Dodkin
EVERETT(II) married Mary Jane MANNING and after her death, Mary CHALLIS nee WILKINSON.  He had seven children.
Mary
EVERETT married William BATH. They had eight children.
William
EVERETT married Emily NORTH. They had six children.
James
EVERETT married  Eliza BALL.  They had thirteen children.
Susan
EVERETT married Henry REYNOLDS.  They had ten children.
Isaac
EVERETT married Henrietta PALMER.  They had eleven sons.
