Cars in Your Dreams
Our DreamingWorld mailing list gives their impressions on Cars :-)

I dream about cars a lot, have for years. I used to dream of my white Pontiac all the time, dreamt I was driving it along, many different settings. I agree it refers to the direction of ones life, and independence, choosing one's road. Sometimes I have a passenger but mostly not. Only once recently was I the passenger in a dream, in the backseat of my parents' car. After I sold my car (my only steady companion during my divorce, 3 moves and remarriage) I dreamed of it more often, but the final time I dreamed I was driving along in another car and looked in the rear view mirror and someone was driving my old Pontiac behind me! I think I have put my sorrow over giving up that car behind me, and also put a phase of life behind me which that car represented.

I am in a car driving or with someone else 2-5 times/week in my dreams so i have looked it up a few times in the dream related books that lay by the bed..

The car is very often representative of our own personal space, an extension of our being. If we are driving a car it can tell us about our motivations, the need to acheive a goal. If we are a passenger perhaps we have surrendered control to someone else.

On a emotional level, different scenarios involving cars can represent different things.. Being alone in a car can show independence, using the brakes in a car or being aware of them can show our ability to control a situation. Ever dream you are driving and the brakes won't work? In my dreams that is telling me that i feel out of control about something. Or that you can't steer the car or are in a vehicle that is being driven carelessly-this can point to a lack of responsibility.

On a spiritual level a car can represent direction and motivation. I have also had times where problems with a vehicle in my dreams were alerting me to possible health problems. Like an engine not starting and i find myself with no energy, no power..

Bright Blessings,
Jezanna

Cars to me are often representative of the body. It can show the condition of your physical body also. So recall what condition the car is in during the dream. Rain's Book says the car "most often refers to one's personal physiological system". So with that in mind, look at what condition the car is in, what situation it is in (long peaceful drives, stressful high speed chases etc) , and apply it to your own life. If the car is in a high speed chase it might be respresentative of your life at the moment - fast paced. Look in the dream for a solution presented, perhaps your dream is trying to show you how to get out of the situation, or make it better.

From the weird divinatory book "Car:- You will be able to make a good living and overcome run of the mill obstacles." Hehehehe....
Anyway, I much prefer the standard psychological version....Cars are a symbol in modern society of independence, of acknowledgement of the self as an individual as unique from others. It can represent self-confidence, our "drives" (excuse the pun, but true) and construction of our everyday ego.

Therefore it is important to see if you have passengers, to see if you automatically incorporate other people into your worldview, to see if the car is in motion, out of control, if damage is done. A common car dream is the lost car dream, which depending on the context can be loss of independance, self-confidence, drive and ambition, or self-worth. Sweet Dreams!

I heard or read somewhere eons ago that cars and most forms of transportation in dreams represented the direction of your life. And that seems to make sense in my dreams and all of the friends I have worked on dreams with. The best one was a young 22 year old friend of mine who dreamt of driving around in her mothers car. This was at the time when she had just decided to move out on her own. I am planning on moving back to the states later this year... Last night I had the first transportation dream I have had in ages... planes....hmmm I should try and remember the dream and send it in...

One other thing as far as dreams and inventions Elias Howe perfected his invention of the sewing machine after a dream...supposedly he got stuck on how to make the thread and needle work, when he had this dream of african warriors with spears that had holes in the points!!!

Hmmm. I can't recall a time where i dreamed about a car or there was any cars in my dreams... I would guess it has something to do with travel of course. One running over you might mean you are stressed about a journey or trip. It depends a lot on the type of car, color, whats in it, etc.

I often have cars in my dreams, usually the real posh cars though like BMWs and Porsches. Even a few trucks. I also often have a passenger or two, or even be a passenger myself a couple of times. But anyway, on to my opinion on cars...

Cars in general are our motivating drives, ambition; freedom and independence; personal space; one's body. If you're alone in a vehicle: independence; feeling alone. Passengers: people important in your life; people who influence your direction in life.If you're driving: self confidence; being responsible for one's own life direction. Another driver: being passive; being influenced by the opinions or emotions of someone else.

Brakes: one's ability to be in control of a situation.
Car body: one's self.
Engine: energy, heart, central drive.
Car mirror: looking back on what is behind you, what you have left behind, or what is approaching you from the past.
Doors ( not the group, ha ha. ) : your way of letting other people share your life. The passenger door therefore refers to those you let near you.
Fuel/petrol: feeling drives; motivation.
Headlights: being able to see what is happening in your life; what lies ahead; insight. If they are off there may be a loss of awareness.
If you are being overtaken you may feel left out or behind. If you are overtaking you feel you're getting ahead.
If reversing there is a sense of not getting anywhere; reversing a decision; or a change of direction.
If the car is old there is a snse of old age or even feelings about death.
A flat tyre can refer to physical problems or injury.

AND A CAR DREAM INTERPRETED:

In another dream the gas pedal on my car kept sticking and I almost hit this woman and then she called the police and I explained it to her and so she dropped the charges but the police wanted to take us both down to the police office anyway and then the cop driving was some insane madman and was doing like 150 miles an hour down subdivision roads and almost crashing multitudes of times.

I interpreted it pretty easily because it's VERY representative of our situation with work and life in general at the moment. It's related to work and Stop Loss etc. He feels like things are "stuck" on fast forward or "accelerate" and that he has no control over it. So you can see where analysing the car, the situation, and things like that where you can find things in your life that are trying to tell you something.

On a totally unrelated subject, last night I dreamed I was at my work with my sister (who lives out of state, I love her but rarely see her) and customers were angry and complaining, there were some lined up outside the office window (which is high up) and I dumped the contents of used catboxes down onto them, thinking, let them see what it's like to have to take this crap! I think this refers not to my job (which has improved, new boss) but to the family situation I am going through. Like it's been my job to take crap and I want to dish it back. Any other thoughts?

Sounds like it...especialy with the presence of your sister there...it may not we work, but something you have to "work at", or at least a lot of demands have been placed upon you in the recent past frrom this source and you wish to rise above it all. Sounds reasonable that it is to do with the family..

sweet dreams
