| Records are made to be broken just like fine china and it is always pleasing to see them smashed; records that is. From the start it looked like a fine day for the Mortensen Wrecking Machine to be on a great time as Jesse had just re-acquired his long lost m-frames from an even longer lost ex-girlfriend. Not only did he have a stomping ride to do his PB time on todays course with his Oakleys but he has also matured into a well mannered less timid newly engaged man. Congratulations to Mr Jesse James for being taken off the market. Jesse took 45 seconds off his time without even doing much training and it will be interesting to see what he does at the Alice Springs masters in October with a bit more training.
We had three guys break the old record of 16min27sec today in the mens section with the ladies also demolishing Marion Floyd's record time of 19min22sec. A stand out performance came from Glenn Taylor who was an unknown going into the race but who put in a stunning performance and broke the old record on his first attempt. He was soon followed in by Brendan Den, who then broke Glenn's new record. Brendan had a strong ride after his amazing ride yesterday into Wyndham toped off with a ride up the Bastion. He then proceeded to learn how to ride a motorbike by slipstreaming a Ute all the way back to Kununurra at 80km/h. Fortunately for Brendan's sake Steven was on hand to stop Wendy from slamming on the Utes brakes to see how far his teeth would go into the Utes tray back. New course record holder Steven Jansen flew across thew finishing line in true to style form, his own slight miss calculation had him thinking he might have been beaten. His concern about the previous days escapades with Brendan affecting his legs proved to be inconsequential. Wendy Den broke the ladies record by doing her usual relaxed style and wondered when her efforts were going to start. By the time she had finished she had taken 1min19sec off the record in her first ever time trial with the Kununurra Cycle Club. I think the pep talk that Brendan gave her on the start line by saying harden up princess helped get her angry legs going, its a flying start and we hope to see even more from her later in the year. Jackie Ellis tied Marions former record time with her effort also her first race outing with KNXCC and Tracy Leon improved her PB by 1 min not bad considering she has spent some time off the bike. Funny man Derek Jones (a.k.a. scratch) did something you should never do in a time trial, that is pace yourself to ride 20km when it is actually a 10km race!! He will learn a lot from that just like he did when he hid in the bushes and the bunch rode past him not knowing he was then behind him forcing him to chase all the way back into town. Alistair Ayto was another first timer who rode an impressive time which we are sure he will be aiming to improve. A great ride was also had by our new junior recruit Terrie. Great ride for a first time trial and we hope we can encourage more people around town to come and have a go with our club. Thanks to Jodie for her time and efforts for organising and running the race today. We all appreciate her doing this. Remember even if you arent riding we are always on lookout for corner marshals for our events so dont feel you should stay home just because youre not racing. It is only about an hour of you time once a month to help out and without volunteers this club does find it hard to operate. Its not often that everyone does their own PB on the same day but today was one of those special days. Keep it up guys and we all look forward to seeing you at the 3 day mini tour in four weeks.
