She is the chief medical officer in charge of biological research at the SGC. Her duties include analyzing new medical discoveries and data submitted by the SG teams, patching up SG teams and administering and approving the routine physical exams given to all SG team members following trips through the Stargate. She adopted Cassandra after surviving a biological plague released on the planet Hanka by the Goa'uld Nirrti.

She began her career as a dancer at age thirteen when she performed in her first musical, "Bye Bye Birdie". Over the years She has appeared in The Outer Limits, The X Files, First Wave and movies such as Masterminds with Patrick Stewart, Exhuming Mr. Rice with David Bowie. She has used her voice talents on many cartoon series including ExoSquad and Rama 1/2.
