General George Hammond is the commanding officer of Stargate Command. Sometime after the original mission to Abydos, he replaced General West as head of the Stargate program. He was just getting ready to retire when the Stargate program was reactivated. He is a career military man. He is stern but fair, and committed to the safety of those under his command. General Hammond is from Texas. He has 2 granddaughters, Tessa and Kayla. When his family was threatened because the NID wanted him to take a more aggressive approach to obtaining off-world technology, he promptly resigned (luckily, he returned when things were resolved). Hammond's wife died from cancer several years ago.
