Objectives: TSWBAT

·        Throw a Frisbee to another person

·        Catch a Frisbee

·        Play cooperatively a game of ultimate

 

Materials:

·        11 Frisbees

·        2 Benches

·        Cones

·        11 Pinees

·        Gym Strip

 

Hook:

·        Who has thrown is Frisbee before?  What kind of games can you play with a Frisbee?

 

Procedure:

·        Have the gym set up with cones to divide the gym into four areas

·        Tell students to change and run around the gym three times clockwise

·        Students run around gym three times

5 min

·        Gather to stand in a circle

·        Stretching Activity: Make sure that they hold each stretch for 10 seconds

·        Ask students to sit in a circle and discuss with them that they will be throwing Frisbees today.  How do you throw a Frisbee?  How can you catch a Frisbee? 

·        Explain that they will be placed in pairs and then will be able to throw the a Frisbee to their partner in their own personal space

·        After throwing the Frisbee they will be placed into larger groups and each person has to be thrown to

·        Ask if they have any questions

·        Line up the children and pair off accordingly

·        Hold each stretch for at least 10 seconds

·        Sit in circle and discuss the activity

·        Ask questions

10 min

·        One person from each pair can grab a Frisbee, then they go to their own personal space

·        Go around observing the students and make sure they are throwing and catching the Frisbees

·        One person from each pair grabs a Frisbee and they go to their own personal space

15 min

·        Ask students to return the Frisbees

·        Students are gathered again and told that this time they will be in groups of 5 or 6 and pass to each other

·        They can only move within their coned area

·        Ask if they have any questions.  Line up the students and split accordingly (number 1-4), one person from each group grabs a Frisbee

·        Students return Frisbee and gather in circle

·        Ask questions

·        One person from each group grabs a Frisbee

·        Each group goes to their designated area as directed by teacher

·        Throw each other the Frisbee

 

·        Tell the catcher’s to start moving around for the Frisbee

·        Students move around for the Frisbee

Conclusion

·        Tell the students to put the cones and Frisbees away

·        Gather in a circle

·        Discuss the activity.  Was the Frisbee thrown in different ways?  How did you catch the Frisbee?  Explain that they will be playing the game Ultimate next day

·        Ask if they have any questions

·        Change and line up at the door

·        Put Frisbees and cones away

·        Students discuss and ask questions

·        Place benches on either side

·        Tell students to change and then run around the gym three times and watch out for the benches that will be set up

·        Ask the students if they have played the game Ultimate

·        Explain the rules as follows

·        No contact

·        You throw the Frisbee to your teammates and try to hit the bench on the opponents end

·        Do not throw the Frisbee irresponsibly because it can be dangerous

·        If the Frisbee is dropped, then it goes to the opposite team

·        You can only take three steps and then you have to pass the Frisbee

·        Ask if they have any questions

·        Tell the students they will be throwing to their partner a Frisbee before they start the game

·        It is important that they stay in their own personal space

·        Stretch

·        Discuss and ask questions

·        Line the students into one line and pair off accordingly

·        Tell the pairs of students to get a Frisbee, find their own personal space, and throw the Frisbee to one another

·        Students line up and pair off accordingly

·        Students get a Frisbee and throw it in their own personal space

5 min

·        Tell the students to return the Frisbees and gather in a circle

·        Review the rules and ask if they have any questions

·        Line up the students and number 1,2.  Team one gets a Pinee

·        Students listen and discuss the rules

·        Line up

10 min

·        Team one the far end of the gym and team two the other end

·        Ask for a captain on each team to come up and guess a number between 1 and 10 for possession

·        Before they start, let them know when you say Freeze that they have to stop

·        Tell them to start

·        Each team goes to their side of the gym

·        One captain comes to center for each team for possession

·        Start playing

 

·        Periodically observe the game like a Ref, yell Freeze when play needs to be stopped

Conclusion

·        Ask students to return the Frisbee, Pinnee’s and help return the benches

·        Gather students in and discuss the activity

·        Are there any other rules that can be applied to the game?

·        Tell them to change and line-up at the door

·        Help with benches

Assessment:

·        Ability to throw, aim, and catch a Frisbee

·        Behave cooperatively during the activity

·        Play as a team member during the ultimate game

 

Justification of Lesson:

·        Students have the opportunity to move in a variety of ways

·        Learn to aim, throw, and catch a Frisbee

·        Warm-up activity at the beginning

·        Have the opportunity to practice throwing and catching a Frisbee to a partner

·        Work cooperatively as a team to get a common goal
