PLO: It is expected that students will demonstrate and use a variety of methods to show the processes of addition and subtraction on one-digit whole numbers.
Math activity: The students will be given a math worksheet that when completed correctly, will uncover a secret friendship question at bottom of page. Each addition/subtraction problem will have a numerical answer with a corresponding letter. The letters when put in the correct spot at bottom of page will uncover message For example, question will be something like, “What are three things that friends do? Answer: share, laugh, respect! Math activity will be followed by interactive song.
Music activity: I will first sing the song “If you’re happy and you know it” with students and then tell them that we are going to change the word happy to the word friendly and we are going to enact friendly gesture ie. if you’re friendly and you know it shake a hand, pat a back, say well done, give a hug, etc. Ask students for some more ideas of friendly gestures. ~10 minutes.
