Language arts and creative movement: By Allison Leech

PLO: It is expected that students will use safe behaviors when responding to simple movement tasks, stay on task when participating in physical activity, and display a willingness to work with others. Objective is to encourage students to express and identify emotions and to strengthen recall skills.

Activity-I will first read the book, The Rainbow Fish” by Marcus Pfister. After reading the book once, I will hand out props to the class; for example, one student will be the rainbow fish (special person) and will be given many shimmery scales, other students will be other fish and will be given streamers, one student will be octopus etc. I will then re-read the story and ask students to act out the story as I read. I will remind them that fish do not run, talk or bump into each other, instead, they swim cooperatively together as a school of fish. As I read the story the students will be acting out the emotions and actions portrayed in the book. The activity will end with the rainbow fish sharing his shimmering scales with his friends. ~20 minutes

Materials: The Rainbow Fish book, props, stickers, rainbow bread, peanut butter, knife.
