Kid Pix and I Movie

Learning Outcomes for Each Lesson: TSWBAT

Language Arts: Presenting and Valuing

Grade 3:

·        demonstrate a willingness to experiment with communication forms to respond to, inform, and entertain others

Grade 4:

·        create and express thoughts, ideas, and feelings in a variety of oral, written, and electronic forms

 

 

Objectives: TSWBAT

·        Finish the Kid Pix slides

·        Make a slideshow

·        Present their slideshow to several people in the class

 

Materials:

·        Stories and pictures

·        Computers

·        Projector

·        I Book

 

Procedure:

10 min

·        Gather students in a circle

·        Tell students that you expect most of them to finish up their slides today

·        Let them know that we are going to create a slideshow

·        Show the students how to do a slideshow

·        Ask if they have any questions

·        Ask them to read the procedures of the lesson

·        Send them back to their seats

·        Participate in discussion and ask questions

·        Read the procedures

·        Sit at their computer

25 min

·        Circulate and help the students out

·        Make sure the print on their slides is big enough

·        Help the students who are ready to make their slideshow

·        Work on their slides and hopefully finish up

 

·        If most of the students finish their slides then let them circulate and watch the slides

·        Students who are finished can circulate and look at other students slides

5 min

Conclusion

·        Tell students that we are going to be learning the program I Movie next class

·        We will be taking our slides we make and editing them so they can hopefully be published on the Internet

·        Ask if they have any questions

·        Tell students to put away Kid Pix CD’s, exit the program and return to launcher, and line-up at the door

·        Ask questions

·        Put away materials

·        Shut down Kid Pix and return to launcher

·        Line up at the door

I Movie Lesson

 

Learning Outcome: Same

 

Objectives

·        Any students who have not finished their slides must finish up during this class

·        Learn how to use I Movie through the sample movie

 

Materials

·        I Macs

·        I Books

 

Procedure

·        Gather students in circle

·        Tell students that we are going to learn the program I Movie today

·        Ask them if they have edited a movie before

·        What are some of the processes involved with editing a movie?

·        Gather in circle and participate in the discussion

 

10 min

·        Show them with the sample movie, how to edit a I Movie

·        Ask students to participate

·        Show them features such as transitions and effects

·        Point out that we do not have very many computers with I Movie

·        This will be a group lesson and involve cooperation and sharing to edit the sample movie

·        The students will have to take turns using I Movie and participate verbally

·        Ask the students to read out the procedure

·        Ask if they have any questions

·        Tell the students to sit at an I Mac or I Book according to groupings (to be decided later)

·        Students who have not finished their slides in Kid Pix must finish this lesson

·        Participate in the demonstration

·        Read out the procedure

·        Emphasize that this is a lesson just to get used to the program

·        Students take turns using the program

·        Turn their Kid Pix Slides into a quick time movie

·        Understand how to edit their own movie

 

Materials

·        I Macs

·        Stories

 

Procedure

What Teacher Does

What Students Do

 

·        Gather students in circle

·        Review what occurred last class

·        Demonstrate using the Kid Pix slides with I Movie and turn it into quick time for an internet movie

·        Ask if they have any questions

·        Ask students to read out procedure

·        This will be a group activity and it is vital that we work together to finish each movie, so it can be put onto the Internet

·        Send students to the I Macs according to groupings (to be determined later)

·        Students sit in circle

·        Listen and participate in demo

·        Go to I Macs according to groupings

 

·        Observe and help each group

·        Work on their slides with I Movie

 

Conclusion

·        Let students know that I will be putting so many movies on my Website each week for people to view

·        Ask if they have any questions

·        Tell students to exit I Movie and return to launcher

·        When finished line up at the door

·        Participate and ask questions

·        Exit I Movie and return to launcher
