Kid Pix and First Nations

  • Walk the students to the computer lab
  • Tell students to go to a computer
  • Show the students on the I Book with the projector, your example of what you want them to do for their assignment
  • Ask if they have used Kid Pix yet and discuss
  • Students walk quietly to the computer lab
  • They sit at a chair
  • Students discuss, answer questions, and ask the teacher questions

15 min

  • Go through the procedure you have written on the whiteboard
  • Ask the students to read the instructions
  • Ask if they have any questions
  • Ask students to play around with Kid Pix
  • Students read instructions
  • Students use Kid Pix

 

Procedure for Lesson

  • This is an individual and quiet activity.  Raise your hand if you have any questions
  • Click into Kid Pix Studio and choose the Kid Pix option
  • Play around Kid Pix for around ten minutes
  • Open a new page from the Kid Pix option.  Choose at least one sentence from the beginning of your story, one sentence from the middle of your story, and one sentence from your ending.  Draw a picture on Kid Pix for each sentence and type the text on the picture.
  • You will have the remainder of class to work on your stories. Remember to save your work after each slide is finished.  Raise your hand if you are finished. 

 

15 min

  • Split your story into three sections (beginning, middle, end)
  • One student works on their story with help from their partner for the first half and the other student does same process for the second half
  • Begin process of making a slide show

5 min

Conclusion:

  • Let the students know that they will continue working on their assignment next computer class
  • Ask the students if they have any questions regarding the activity
  • Ask questions and discuss activity

 

Second Day of Kid Pix

  • Show students the process of making a slide show with their slides
  • Ask if they have any questions
  • Listen and ask questions

Written Procedure:

  • You have 25 minutes to work on your slides.
  • This is an individual and quiet activity.  Raise your hand if you have any questions
  • If you are finished all three slides put up your hand and I will tell you what to do next
  • Students read out the procedure
  • Do activity

5 min

Conclusion:

  • Ask if they have any questions regarding the activity today
  • Discuss with them that the next step is to turn your slides into a slideshow
