First Nations Drawing for the Story

  • Discuss and review the activity the students did last day
  • Hand back their stories and talk about the corrections you made
  • Get the students to make their spelling corrections, can use dictionaries if need be
  • Students answer questions and discuss the activity from last day

5 min

  • Explain to the students what they will be doing for the assignment
    • They will be drawing a picture for their story
  • Show the pictures of Iktomi to give them ideas for their story
  • Explain that their picture should be descriptive of their whole story, much like the cover of a book.  Ask if they have any questions
  • Students listen and raise their hands if they have some stories
  • Discuss what they can draw

Procedure to write for display-

Make sure to read the following rules with the students and make sure they understand:

  • Print or write your name and the date on the top of the sheet
  • This is an individual and quiet activity.  If you have any questions during the class, please raise your hand.
  • Draw a picture for your story using pencil.
  • You can either color your picture with felts or pencil crayons.
  • Raise your hand when you are finished.
  • Students chosen, can read a rule aloud
  • Discuss and question

30 min

  • Ask if they have any questions, hand out the paper, and tell the students to start the activity
  • Students take out their materials for the activity and begin their drawing once they have received paper

5 min

Conclusion

  • Comment on the students effort with the activity and discuss how the activity went
  • Let students know that they will be making a slide show with their stories next class using Kid Pix
  • Ask the students if they have any questions for today’s activity
  • Ask students to hand-in art work
  • Discuss the activity and ask questions
  • Hand in their work
