Implementation:
Hook:
How do professional athletes train to become good at a sport and maintain their abilities of that sport? Have a short discussion about individual exercise and focus on stretching and the abdominal.
Procedure:
·
Have all the materials ready for preparation
·
Tell students that they have to bring their gym strip and a pencil
·
Have a short discussion about stretching and abdominal exercises;
ensure to discuss about sets and repetitions
·
Do some stretches with the children
o
Neck area
o
Upper Body
o
Lower body
·
Students then run around the perimeter of the gym
·
Demonstrate crunches and v-sit abdominal exercises; show handout
indicating that each student records how many repetitions they have done in each
set. Ask if they have any
questions. Make sure that the
students do each exercise slowly.
·
Put class in to pairs and the students do the abdominal activity.
Observe the activity and make sure that the students are doing the
exercises safely and correctly
·
Short wrap-up discussion of the activity
Conclusion:
· If there is time, choose one group to demonstrate the abdominal exercises to the rest of the class and show their data sheet. Have a short discussion to wrap-up the activity
Extension:
· Play the game Exercise Tag
o The object of the game is to play tag and the student that gets tagged, must do at least ten repetitions of a particular abdominal exercise (the teacher tells the student which particular exercise it will be
