Learning Outcome:

• distinguish between static and current electrical charges
• give examples of how electricity is used safely

Objectives: The student will be able to:

• work cooperatively in groups
• research using the internet and take notes
• find information on static and current electrical charges and distinguish them
• investigate how electricity can be used safely
• summarize their data by presenting it to class

Introduction:

You are a group of scientists looking at the differences between static and current electrical charges.  You also want to investigate how electricity can be used safely.  Use the internet for your research, take notes, and each group of scientists will present their information.

Procedure:

• You will be assigned in groups and will have to work cooperatively to find information from the internet on static and current electrical charges.  Take notes on the information you find
• Look for information on electrical safety as well.  Remember to take notes
• Present you information to the class

Focus Questions for your research:

• What is static electricity?
• What is current electricity?
• What are the differences between these two electrical charges?
• Are there any similarities, if so, what are they?
• What are some ways to work with electricity safely?
