MEMORABLE ARMY DAYS

I guess the memorable days i had in ROTC were the interesting encounters with cadets in my Battalion. Before commencing ROTC, i was single. I didn't have a boyfriend or many friends for that matter. A sudden change in male behavior around me took me by surprise. Frightening initially, but i got the hang of it and ended up quite liking some of the attention. Hehehe.

Okay, here's the truth. I am shy around guys. I wouldn't talk much with them unless i have a keyboard. First time i landed my butt in ROTC, i had heaps of guys all around, trying to talk to me. Woah, i thought. This is freaky.

There was this guy. This was around the first week of ROTC. He seemed friendly and was pretty cute. Kept smiling at me. I thought he was just being polite. But he kept on smiling as i walked past. I thought i hadn't zipped up my pants, but i did. Maybe a bird pooped on my head and i hadn't realized it, but i didn't find anything strange when i washed my hair that night.I'll call him Cadet S. Cadet S was a MS4. Nice guy and extremely helpful. During one of my STXs, i was close to heat exhaustion and he had me pulled out before i got into bigger trouble. He asked me to sit under the shade by the wheel of a truck. I refused to (being shy). I was getting really stubborn. By right, i should have gotten yelled at by him for disobeying orders. LOL. Or slapped with an Article 15. Well, all he said was, "Please? Do it for me?" And flashed a smile. I reluctantly agreed and sat down and you can't imagine how happy he was and how big his smile was after that. LOL. I still remember his smile. =)

Then there's another guy. He's been really encouraging and all throughout my whole time in ROTC. Friendly and just plain sweet. LOL. I would be greeted with a smile and a hand around my waist. Woah! A little too friendly. But i soon got used to these kinda body contacts. The male cadets tend to like to have some body contact with a female. Be it a handshake or holding the arm and nothing more, it just makes them so happy for some reason.

There's another called Cadet C. I have always been afraid of him as he had that serious and stern look on his face wherever he went. During the Military Ball, he tried to get me to smile by tickling my tummy. LOL. He said i should smile as i looked too serious. I should have told him the same thing too. But he was happy that night. Got to dress up in Class As and all. And his girlfriend looked great that night too!

And then there's Cadet JC. He's the medic of the Bn and i'm quite the regular there when it comes to medical attention. He'll always check on me to make sure that i am okay. Sometimes i stay in one position and keep too quiet, he probably thought i was dead or something. And he'll call out and i'll just smile and remain all quiet. Once, i knew the elevator wasn't working and i didn't say anything when he walked into it. He stayed in for a good half minute and he came out again, looked at me and asked "WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME THAT IT WASN'T WORKING?" I just smiled. Another time, we were at a Halloween theme park and I was following behind as we walked through a maze of corridors. As he rounded a corner, i found a door and used the exit. It took me to another area of the maze. As i stood there, he showed up and was startled to see me. He turned his back and didn't see me at the back as i was behind him earlier. He came up to me and said, "HOW ON EARTH DID YOU GET HERE? I DIDN'T SEE YOU PASS ME!" I just smiled at him and followed behind him again. I never told him about the secret. I guess he still thinks i can walk through walls. LOL.

Cadet K was quite a good cadet. Very motivated and HOOAH. Once, he sent out orders to every cadet in the squad with regards to the week's events. As always, he welcomed cadets with questions should they be unclear about the orders. So i asked a question. But i must have gotten him at the wrong time as he got cranky and said something about me disobeying orders and he was going to have me with an Article 15. I said that if he had given clearer orders, i wouldn't be asking him questions. He apologized. LOL. Which i thought was a nice thing for a guy to do.

There are a bunch of other guys but i'll end this page with this particular person. I shall call him Cadet J. Cadet J was prior service and possibly the yummiest looking person in the Bn as most of the female cadets have commented to me about. In a nutshell, he was the guy most females were eyeing. I couldn't care less. At that time i was hanging out with an Air Force guy. But Cadet J has always behaved differently around me which i found it really interesting. I guess he could have been interested in me but i didn't realize it till half a year after i got out of ROTC. LOL. During CWST, when i was supposed to jump off the platform and into the water, he would lean on me from behind, hoping that i would fall off. But i had to lean back to prevent myself from falling off, which meant leaning into him. He must have had a field day being that up close to me. LOL. Other male cadets would rally around me cheering me on. A female cadet seemed jealous about the attention i was getting and she volunteered to jump first. So she got some of the attention, but the guys knew me better as i was in the Bn longer than she did so i guess they had a preference. LOL. She was about to take the jump when she looked over the platform and screamed, clinging onto another cadet's chest. To cut the story of CWST short, the CO came in, took my hand and said "OKAY, WE ARE GONNA JUMP." Next moment, he pulled me along and i was tumbling into the pool and i made a splash down. I was so shook up that i cried. LOL. Back to Cadet J, well another time he had contact with me was at the Halloween theme park. He would visit me while i pulled security, sorta like to keep me company. We talked a while and he'll tend to sneak up behind me, put his head on my shoulder and look at me or touch my earlobe. LOL. I just found his behavior interesting. I guess he was flirting but i didn't really notice it till it was too late. LMAO. But all is well.

I hope that this little tidbit of ROTC doesn't get any of the cadets mentioned above into trouble. I just found those moments memorable. LOL. Thanks guys, for making my time in ROTC worth remembering.
