STEMS

  Function of a Stem:
Stems hold a plant's leaves up to the sun and transport materials needed for the plant to live.

Parts of a Stem:

Xylem -
Carries water and dissoloved nutrients from roots to stems and leaves. Xylem cells conduct water in only one direction: upwards.

Phloem -

Carries the products of photosynthesis (food and oxygen). Functioning phloem cells are alive and filled with cytopasm.
