SEEDS AND GROWTH Defiinition of a Seed: Multicellular structre containing a diploid embryonic plant and a food supply protected by a seed coat.
Germination - Seeds absorb water and the absorbed water causes the endosperm and cotyledons to swell, cracking open the seed coat. The radicle emerqes through the crack and becomes the primary root.
Dormancy - Depending on the type of seed and the conditions, seeds have different life cycles. Some seeds enter a period of dormancy, where the embryo is alive but not growing.
