Moneran

Kingdom: Prokaryates (cells without a nucleus) are placed in the kingdom monera.

Phylum: Eubacteria, cyanobacteria, archaebacteria, prochlorabacteria.

Info:

BACTERIA:

1.) Bacteria ranges in size from 1 to 10 micrometers.

2.) Bacteria has three basic shapes: rod, sphere, and spiral.

  • If the bacteria is rod shaped it is called bacilli.
  • If the bacteria is sphere shaped it is called cocci.
  • If the bacteria is spiral shaped it is called spirilla.

EUBACTERIA:

1.) Eubacteria is the largest moneran phyla.

2.) Some Eubacteria are surrounded by two cell membranes.

3.) Some species live in the soil.

4.) Others infect larger organisms that produce diseases.

5.) Photosynthetic bacteria are those capable of making their own food by using light.

CYANOBACTERIA:

1.) Cyanbacteria are found through out the world- in fresh and saltwater and on land.

2.) Monerans that are blue-green in color contain a blue pigment called phycocyanin.

3.) The presence of these two pigments gives the name blue-green to the entire group of cyanobacteria.

ARCHAEBACTERIA:

1.) Archaebacteria, includes organisms that live in extremely harsh environments. For example, one group of archaebacteria lives in oxygen-free environments such as thick mud and the digestive tracts of animals.

PROCHLOROBACTERIA:

1.) To date only two species of prochlorobacteria have been discovered.

2.) Prochlorobacteria contain chlorophyll a and b, as their principal pigments.
