How to apply a good Wall paper?

A nice and beautiful  wall paper can some times effect your mood. There is lot of breath taking cool 3D rendered art works  found on the web. Do a search for wall papers. You can definitely get a nice one. Some times we cannot identify the desktop Icons in  some  confusing  background .Avoid that. Only  bitmap files( .bmp) you can use as a wall paper in normal mode.

If you want to use  .jpg, gif  or   other   compressed picture files  You must enable the desktop as active desk top. Bitmap files are big files consume more system resources .

In old computers or slow computers with less system resources avoid Wallpapers. In that case use small files as tiles or instead of wall paper select good background color. It will not over load your system.

To set wall paper  Right-click on an empty spot on your Desktop and select Properties,-> Background select or browse the location of your wall paper->select the display option ->  ok.

for tiled picture select the display option as tiled. I f you want stretch the picture to the windows width use stretch

when you use your photo in desk top if you select the stretch option the picture  will be wide in horizontally. Avoid this type distortion before set you picture as wallpaper edit the picture with Ms paint resize the picture as your screen size.

By using Ms paint  you can convert any .jpg  file to bmp and vice versa.

You can create Your own wall papers by using software like  Adobe Photoshop. set the wall paper size as your screen size.

Another easy way select any picture you want to set as wallpaper ,right click ->set as wall paper.

Some art gallery sites such as Digital Blasphemy, offers breath-taking 3D rendered artworks for wallpapers

Remember that a nice wallpaper can eat up to a gigantic 3-5 megabytes. This will consume a lot of system resources. So convert it to JPEG or GIF. This will compress up to 10 times the original size and won't suffer quality loss

If You Don't Need It, or Your system is already slow  Don't Use Active desktop

If you don't need the active desktop, you can't disable your desktop as web page. All you need to do is to right-click the desktop, select Active Desktop and check off View As Web Page. It will speed up the desktop dramatically

A very cluttered desktop makes things hard to find and might even cloud a beautiful wallpaper. Our advice - only the most important icons should stay on the desktop. The rest must go. And also remember that the less active desktop components are there, the better because they can cause the desktop to be complicated and slow. You will find that a clean desktop will look very neat and the refresh and startup loading rate will be much faster because there are less items now.

Creating Your Own Icons

Open up paint., select Image, Attributes. Then change both width and height to 32

Paint your new icon and make sure you leave the background white. Next, save the file with an .ico extension. Now, to use your own icons, right-click any shortcut and select Properties. Select the Shortcut tab and click on the Advance Settings button. Type in the full path of where your icon is situated. You can now use your own icon!
