ColbyCo, Steven's office – the Next Morning Steven sat at his desk and read some papers when his secretary’s voice came across the intercom. “Sir, Nurse Davidson from Denver Memorial just called. Your appointment with Ms Reece has been postponed to four o’clock” She informed him. “Really that’s strange; Sammy Jo didn’t tell me anything about that” “They informed her as well,” the secretary explained. “Okay, thank you” he said. “And there is a sergeant here to see you, regarding Mrs. Colby.” Steven wondered what the police still wanted from him. “Send him in, Jane.” A few moments later, Sgt. Craig Harper entered the office. “Mr. Carrington, thank you for seeing me.” He said as he extended his hand. Steven hesitantly accepted. “What can I do for you?” He asked, sitting back in his chair. “I assumed your job was finished with the arrest of my mother?” He continued, his annoyance about it being apparent in his tone. Harper felt slightly uncomfortable. What did he expect? Of course, Steven Carrington had reservations about him, and he couldn’t blame him for it. He decided to ignore it. “I though you might want to know the results of the autopsy.” The sergeant said, handing Steven the file. Steven was surprised. He took the file and started reading. Harper watched him. “I guess that explains it.” He muttered more to himself. “Explains what?” Harper asked. Steven looked up at him. “Her husband was the one who injected her with AIDS.” He finished reading the report and handed it back to Harper. “You didn’t need to do that. What is it that you really want?” He asked bluntly and with a tone of curiosity in his voice. Harper hesitated. He couldn’t tell him that he had been looking for a chance to see him again. “I’m just doing my job.” “If you had done you job my mother wouldn’t have been arrested!” Steven replied coldly. Everything about this police detective provoked him, but actually why? “We had no choice but to arrest her. All the evidence pointed to her.” He defended himself. “But she didn’t do it.” Steven objected. “Did you ever investigate in another direction?” “Sure.” He replied, folding his arms across his chest. “Really Well, what do you know about Kenneth Maher? He was my aunt’s lawyer.” “He’s not a suspect.” Harper said firmly. “What if I told you that he made a false testimony; that he got paid for his lying?” “Can you prove that?” Harper wanted to know. “Yes.” “Okay ...” He answered, waiting for Steven to continue. “I can show you the payments ...” Harper cut him off. “That’s all you have?” “Listen, something is wrong with my aunt’s testament; I’m sure it was predated. And Maher lied about her intention to change her will shortly before her death.” “Can you prove that too?”
“Unfortunately no, at least not yet” Steven admitted frustrated. Suddenly Harper’s cell phone rang. “Harper here” He turned away and listened to the person that called. Steven used the moment to examine him closely. He was surely one of the most handsome men he had ever met, and Steven assumed that he was gay too. Maybe he read too much into this, and this police detective was just doing his job, but Steven had the feeling that his visit was actually about something else. “I’ll be right there.” Harper said, before shutting his phone close. He turned back around to Steven. “I have to leave, but if you want, we’ll questioning Maher again.” Steven looked at Harper for a moment, and then grabbed a piece of paper and wrote something on it. “Call me when you have something new.” He said, giving his number to him. Harper was stunned, but tried to hide it. “You’ll hear from me.” He said as professional as possible, before turning to leave. What’s wrong with you? Steven thought to himself, after Harper had left his office. He wished he would have acted less obvious, but something about this man was irresistible. ![]() Jim's apartment “Okay, Jim… don’t worry about that, I’ll pay everything. Yes, I called them. Sure, I’ll stop by later. No problem, say hi to Sammy Jo… all right then. Bye” Ashley hung up the telephone and put it back on the table. Then she took off her bath robe and was about to dressed up when LB came inside the room.
“Wow, what a sexy body we have here” he said with a wicked smile on his face, when he came behind her and began caressing her naked breast. Ashley ignored his last sentence, turned around and continued to put on her cloths. LB didn’t give up and reach his hand again to her naked body. “Stop that, LB” she said coldly and pushed him away. “Hey… it’s not fair” “What’s not fair?” “This! What is up with this attitude?”
“Until you’ll stop behaving like a little boy and become an adult,” she answered as she finished dressing. “Okay, so I maybe exaggerated a little bit – “ “A little bit? You should see yourself; you were acting like a crazy man that can’t see his girlfriend talking with other men!” “What did you expecting me to do or think when I saw you flirting with Danny one day and in the next going to his home?” “We are not going to have this discussion again, LB. I had it!” “Okay, okay! I shouldn’t have acting like that. Okay! Can we forget about that now and move on?” “Not before you say you sorry” “I said already” “No you didn’t” “Ashley…” “What is it with you men that you can’t say those words? ‘I’m sorry, I love you’”? “I always tell you I love you!” “’I’m sorry’ LB. it’s not so difficult to say the words. I’m sorry!’” she was angry. LB looked at speechless and it made her even angrier now. She turned away and was about to walk out the room. “I’m sorry!” She stopped walking. “I’m sorry, okay?” he repeated. “My behavior was totally wrong and I’m sorry. It won’t happen again” he said with a pleading look on his face. “Promise?” she asked, still standing at the doorway. “Cross my heart” he promised. “Can I get a kiss now?” he asked and she approached him. “What am I going to do with you, LB?” “Well I have the perfect answer to that,” he answered smiling and she gave him back an angry look. “What? I have one hour until I’m go to work” he said and kissed her. “Not now. I have to go. I promised Jim I’ll pay the bills” “And then? Would you like to have lunch with me today? I’ll tell Krystle we’re coming” “Don’t start with that again, LB” “What? I can’t pretend any more, Ash. My grandpa trusts me; he has to know the truth. And as long I’m putting that on hold, his reaction will be worse” “We should talk about that first with Krystle” “Okay, I’ll give her a call and ask her, and then I’ll let you know” “Fine, I’ll keep my cell phone on,” she said and turned to go, but he caught her in his arms and kissed her. She kissed him back and for a second let him get carry away, until she stopped him all at once. “Hey…” “I’m late. Call me later, bye” she said and walked out. LB stayed in his position, disappointed. The Memorial Hospital- outside Miles’ room Adam’s thoughts drifted as he approached Miles’ room. He was still reeling from the fight he had with Joseph earlier in the day. Joseph still hadn’t forgiven him for missing Christmas, and Adam had tried to calm the boy down by taking him to the zoo, but Joseph did not want anything to do with his father this morning, telling him to “go ask your lady friend to go with you.” Well he does have my temper, Adam smiled as he thought. He had talked to Dana earlier as well, and although he missed her, He was glad she had to postpone her trip to Denver until next month. He opened the door gently and Amanda turned and greeted him with a smile. “Adam! I didn’t expect to see you today.” “Well we haven’t had much time to talk since I got back, and I wanted to see how you were doing.” Adam said as he hugged his sister.
“I have missed our talks.” She looked at Miles. “I’ve been spending so much of my time here.” “I was rather surprised when Krystle told me how close you and Miles have become.” “I love him Adam.” Adam smiled. “I can tell by the way you look at him.” He paused. “The same way I used to look at Kirby.” Amanda took Adam’s hand. “I know how much you miss her.” She looked at Miles again. “How long has he been like this?” Adam changed the subject. It was too painful for him, talking about Kirby. “A few days, the doctors say that he could regain consciousness in a day, or a month.” “Is there anything I can do?” “There is nothing any of us can do.” Amanda wiped a tear form her eye. “Until they find the right blood match, and his own body starts producing white blood cells his wounds won’t hear.” “Can they operate on his heart yet?” Adam asked, already knowing the answer. “Not until his body can produce enough white blood cells. Until then the tear in his heart won’t heal, and the laser sugary is too risky.” Adam turned her and looked in her eyes. “I’ll tell you what. A close friend of mine form my college day's was studying to be a doctor, I haven’t talked to him for years, but if I remember right he’s a specialist at Saint Vincent’s in New York.” Amanda looked up hopeful and Adam continued. “I’ll track him down and see if maybe he could fly out here to look over Miles’ case” He added. “Thank you.” “Its nothing, you’ve helped me through so much, now it’s my turn to take care of you.” Adam turned to leave, and then stopped. “Would you come with me to dinner tonight?” “I don’t know if I should.” Amanda said indicating Miles, and then she smiled. “I guess I could for a few hours.” “Great, I’ll pick you up at 6pm.” Adam walked out the door and bumped right into Monica Colby, knocking the books she was carrying to the ground. “Monica I’m sorry” “What the hell are you doing here, Adam?” “Well if it’s any of your business I came to see my sister.” Adam said a bit snippily, Dex and Sable walked up behind them. Sable went inside the room, but Dex stayed behind. “You expect me to believe that you give a damn about any member of your family.” Monica said as she picked up her book. “I’m sure you’re here to cause some kind of trouble.” “Monica, I’m not in the mood for your mouth today. I came to see my sister, and to see if there was anything I could do.” B “Yes like pull the plug on my brother life support.” “Monica that’s enough” Dex interrupted.
“I don’t need your help, Dexter” “Maybe you would like me to take you outside, Adam.” Dex said indicating his fists. Monica stepped between them. “Dex, would you please mind staying out of my life? No one wants you here, and when mother finds out you are lying to her…” She stopped herself form going any further, not wanting Adam to notice. But Adam couldn’t help but notice the tension between Dex and Monica. Dex looked pale as he walked into Miles’ room, and as Monica watched Adam walk down the corridor. “I’ve always hated that rattle snake.” she shivered. Adam took out his cell phone and started to dial the office, when he paused. “Maybe there is trouble in paradise.” Adam stopped, and turned watching as Monica opened the door and walked into Miles’ room.
Denver Carrington – Blake’s office
Jeff had returned from lunch only a few minutes ago, when the door opened and a smiling Blake entered. "Hello Jeff," he said cheerfully and walked over to his desk. He pointed at his son-in-law. "You certainly make a good picture, sitting in that chair," he grinned. Jeff was surprised to see Blake in the office. He was supposed to be at home. "Blake, what a surprise," Jeff said and tried to smile. “What are you doing here, the doctor asked you to stay at home for a little while longer?” “I can’t stay in bed all day long. And I wanted to get some papers about our new partners. I want to be up to date when I return on Monday," Blake stated. Jeff looked confused. "What’s wrong?" Blake asked, looking at Jeff, seeing his forehead wrinkle. "Oh, nothing I just didn’t expect you to be back so early," Jeff replied nervously. "But I’ve been saying it for days!" Blake asked himself whether anybody had listened to what he had said the past few days. He was back in from and ready to return. But it seemed whenever he mentioned work, everybody would start acting as if there wasn’t something he wasn’t supposed to know. Suddenly it came to his mind that something might have gone wrong at Denver Carrington.
"Jeff, is really everything going fine here?" “Sure! If something went wrong, you’d be the first person to know." Jeff’s voice was now stable and convincing again, but he felt uncomfortable. He hated swindling people, especially to Blake. But Blake bought it. "Good," he said after a pause and nodded. “Well, I don’t want to disturb you any further. I’ll just have some papers copied for me and then I’ll go back home." He took a look at his watch. “I’m sure Krystle is already waiting for me. I told her it wouldn’t take too long, since she’s always so worried." Blake smiled and shook his head. His wife had taken very good care of him the last few days. She had helped him to recover. But sometimes Krystle was still a bit naive and overprotective. But Blake knew that she only did this because she loved him so much. B After Blake had gotten the copies of the papers he wanted, Jeff saw him out of the office. He had tried to act as natural as possible, but Blake still had the feeling that something was not quiet right when he was driving back home to the mansion. The Carrington Mansion – Lauren’s room Lauren entered the house with Geared who picked her up from school. Jeff and Fallon ordered him to take her there in the morning and bring her back to the house right after school, without letting her going out. It was not easy of course. She planned to leave school in the morning and go with Ricky to “have some fun” but he let her down and didn’t show up at school. One of the guys she met at the party two days ago, offered to let her go with him, but he was older then her by two years and she was afraid to go with him alone. Ricky called her cell eventually, but it was after Gerard picked her up. She couldn’t talk to him too much, but said “yes” when he asked her if she’ll come with him after school. He’ll wait for her at the road in front of the mansion. “Your mother asked me to verify that you are doing your homework” Gerard said when she stepped upstairs. “I’ll do my homework, Gerard. Come on, you can trust me!” “You know your parents. They will be very angry about the two of us if you try something” “Don’t worry I won’t do you anything wrong, okay?” “I hope so” “Good. I’ll be in my room,” she said and stepped upstairs. Gerard nodded and went inside the kitchen. Lauren waited until he was away and then stepped back down the stairs and hurried to the doorway. But before she reached the door, Gerard showed up again. “Oh, I’m just going to get some fresh air” she said but he obviously didn’t buy that. “Okay, okay, I’m going up!” She said angrily and went to her room, to call Ricky. “I can’t go out now, the butler stocking me,” She explained. “You better go by yourselves, I don’t want to keep you waiting,” she added. “Okay, I’ll come back later with some good stuff for you” he promised her. Sable’s Suite
Sable sat exhausted after her visit with Miles’ earlier, it pained her so much to watch any of her children hurting. She smiled looking over at Monica. Monica had been such a dear lately, helping keep her mind off her troubles, and helping her plan the biggest wedding Denver has seen in years. She just hoped Miles would be there to witness it. Monica stood up and handed Sable another book. “I really like this cake mother, it’s really sparks elegance.” Sable looked at the photo, it was a four layer white and yellow floral design, it reminded Sable of a similar cake years ago. The one she had on her first wedding to Jason. “Darling I can’t look at another thing today.” Monica smiled, “All right mother, I’m going to change before I go to check on Miles again, I promised Amanda I would look in on him while she went out tonight.” “She really cares about him doesn’t she?” Sable thought out loud. “I just hope he has a chance for happiness with her.” She started to cry. Monica rushed to her side and held her mother. “Oh Monica he has to be all right, I can’t loose him.” “Mother as soon as our test results come back, one of us must surly match his blood.” Sable shook her head. “But what if we don’t, what then?”
“Mother I’m his twin, surly I’ll be a close enough match, and then they will be able to operate.” Monica looked serious for a moment. “Mother” “Yes” Sable looked up and sees a determined look in her daughters eyes that frightened her “What about his father?” Sable had dreaded that subject for years, since Alexis blurted out that Jason Colby wasn’t Miles and Monica’s father. In an instant, all the horrible memories flooded her mind: the rape, keeping the secret form Jason all those years only to have Alexis tell him, How Jason had tossed Monica and Miles out of his life, and how they hadn’t seen the Colby’s of California in over fifteen years. “Monica I don’t want to think about that.” “But what if our real father is a match for Miles; do you know what happened to him?” “After the incident I didn’t exactly exchange phone numbers.” “Mother, why are you being so flip with me, I know he raped you, and I know how hard it was on you, but surly you know what became of him.” Monica paused. “I know I never asked his name, and I never want to meet him, but maybe he could help Miles.” B “I don’t want to think about it Monica.” She got up and started to walk to her room. “After we get the results, only then I will.” She started to cry again and ran out of the room wallowing in the past. Monica was about to go after her, when Dex came strolling in happy as could be. “Where is your mother?” “What seems to have perked you up?” Monica asked not caring.
“I have just come form Morning Star Lutheran church, and spoke to Pastor Brant; He’s agreed to marry your mother and me.” “Well, isn’t that wonderful.” “I think your mother will think so.” Dex said. “That is until she finds out what a low down snake you are” “Monica I’m in no mood for your foul attitude, where is your mother?” Monica got angry “She in her room, very upset about Miles, and I’m sure she doesn’t care about a church.” Dex walked past her, “Maybe this will cheer her up.” Monica started to protest, but the phone rang, “Colby residence” she paused. “Why are you calling me” she paused again. “I would never be caught having a drink with you.” “It’s about Dexter” the caller said. “Well maybe one drink.” She paused again. “Yes I know where it is I’ll be there.” She said and hung the phone. “Well maybe I can find a way to get rid of you finally, Dex Dexter” Denver Memorial Hospital
Steven arrived at the memorial hospital at four o’clock, exactly as the secretary informed him. “Excuse me? Is Sammy Jo Reece inside?” he asked the nurse, pointing to the doctor’s office. “No, you just missed her. Ms. Reece just left. You're an hour late,” She explained. “An hour late but I received a message the appointment was postponed to an hour later” Steven pleaded. “I'm sorry Mr. Carrington, the appointment hour hasn't change. You must have been misinformed. Who did you receive the message from?” The nurse asked. “My secretary…” Steven began and then realized what happened. “Do you know where she headed?" “Yes, they headed -" “They?” he cut her words. “Yes, Ms. Reece and Dr. Martinez. They went to 4th floor - Physical Therapy. The doctor is advancing wonderfully, he'll be walking real soon” The nurse smiled. “That's great, thanks!” Steven smiled wearily. “You not over doing this Jim” Sammy Jo asked as she wheeled him down the hall. “No I'll be walking soon” So I can love you perfectly, Jim smiled. “Good, motivation is very important. I'm glad to see you have it.” Sammy Jo said. “It's all because I have this beautiful woman to fight for” Jim added. Sammy Jo smiled wearily. They stopped. “Well, here we are, I'll see you later” Sammy Jo kissed him. “You okay?” Jim asked. “Just tired” Sammy Jo signed. “Anything I can do?” Jim asked. “You've been wonderful and very supportive, thanks you for coming with me” Sammy Jo smiled. “You're welcome. I'll be here for you always. Too bad Steven couldn't make it” Jim smiled. “Jim…he probably had something more important to do. I’m always last on his priority list” Sammy Jo walked away as Jim watched her. His plan worked out better than he expected. Steven watched the elevator doors open and Sammy Jo stand in front of it. “Sammy Jo, I'm sorry, I got…” He started as he walked out. “I don't want to hear it.” Sammy Jo entered the elevator and pressed the button.
“Sammy Jo please…” Steven pleaded as Sammy Jo ignored him. He watched the elevator doors closed. “Damn…” Steven walked down the hall debating what to do as he saw Jim walking. Scalline Restaurant- Downtown Denver The waiter had just taken their orders, and then began pouring the wine Adam and Amanda ordered. “I’m really happy that you asked me to come out with you” Amanda said raising her glass. “Well let’s make a toast” Adam said raising his glass as well, “To a speedy recovery for Miles.” “You sound like you know something.” “I spoke to that specialist I was telling you about, his name is Erik Dalton, and He’s agreed to come to Denver.” “Adam that’s wonderful, I just know things will turn around soon.” Their main courses arrived and over small talk they caught up on the past few months, Adam learned all the on goings of La Mirage, and how that caused Miles and Amanda to grow closer, and all the events leading up to the accident. Amanda leaned about Mrs. Litton and Adam’s reunion with Dana and about the difficulty with Joseph, “Maybe we should take the kids to the park tomorrow afternoon.” “I guess if Joseph will come with me.” Adam said without much hope. “He’s just upset, he lost his mother, and when you were not able to come home for Christmas it upset him even more.” “I just wish I could make him understand no one will come between us.” Adam sat his fork down. “He’s the most important thing in my life, and no woman will ever come between us.” Amanda was about to answer when her cell phone rang. She picked it up and a shock spread upon her face. “It’s Sable; Miles is coming out of his coma.” She started to stand, and Adam walked over to her. “Would you like me to come with you?” “No I’ll take a taxi, I’ll call you later.” Amanda said as she kissed him goodbye. Adam sat back down, as a woman in a long black strapless dress approached his table. “I’m glad you could make it.” Monica Colby sat down and smiled “Your call seemed mutually beneficial.” “I won’t keep you long, I’m sure you want to rush to the hospital.” “Mother just called me, yes” Monica took a glass that Adam offered her. “I’ll be going in a moment.” “Well, I cut to the chase, we both hate Dex Dexter.” “What makes you think I hate Dex?” Monica asked “A feeling I get, any way I want him out of Denver, and out of the business world, and I think you want him out of your mother’s life, so maybe we should pool our resources and help one another.” Monica took a sip of the wine Adam offered her. “Adam I detest you, why would I work with you?” “Because I’m devious, and I stop at nothing to reach my goal.” “Why do you hate Dex so much?” Adam smiled, “That’s not so simple, I’m just tired of his macho hero act, He’s fooled my mother and father, and I’m sick of it.” Adam paused “So are we partners or not?” “What have I got to loose?” Monica smiled as she raised her glass. The Carrington Mansion- Blake’s study
Blake sat in his chair in the study. He couldn’t stop thinking about Patricia. It was so many years ago, but he felt like it happened yesterday. She still hadn’t explained why she disappeared from his life. He didn’t really buy the `cold feet’ explanation. There was something more here, but what? He stood up, went to his desk, and opened the bottom drawer, and began searching for something. After few minutes, he pulled out an old box that was hidden carefully. He grabbed the box, put it on his desk and took out some papers when he heard a door slamming. “Daddy?” he heard Krystina’s voice. He stood up and tried to put the box back in the drawer, But Krystina showed up in the room in two seconds. “There you are,” she said. “Hello, sweetheart” he smiled. “You should be resting in bed you know. What are you doing here, working?” she asked, looking at the box on the table. “You are right, I should be in bed. Come on, you’ll help me go upstairs” he grabbed her hand and went with her outside, forgetting to turn off the light. “It’s about time you visited your old man” he told her when they entered his bedroom. “I’m sorry, I should have at least called you, I know” she hugged him back. “Never mind as long, you are back here. How was the trip?” he asked her. Krystle told him she went to a trip with some friends of her. “What trip?” the girl was confused for a second. “The trip you went to with your friend” he didn’t suspect anything. “Oh, well… It wasn’t a trip really” she said. “No?” Blake wondered. “No… I stayed in town,” she answered. On her way to the mansion, she thought how she was going to tell him the truth without upsetting him too much. She knew exactly what to say, but now, when she was in front of him, she was afraid of his reaction. “I don’t understand. Your mother told me you went to a trip, now you saying you were in Denver the whole time?” “She didn’t want to lie to you, but – “ “Wait a minute. Your mother never lied to me, what is going on here?” “She didn’t have a choice really she didn’t want to get you upset. You was weak and the doctors warned us not to bother you, and – “ “Slow down, Krystina what are you talking about?” he became angry now.
“Maybe it’s not a good idea” “The hell it isn’t, you are going to tell me what is going on” “Daddy – “
“I’m waiting!” “Promise me you’ll try to understand. And don’t be angry with me… it’s about Kyle” “Don’t tell me you are going back to him” “Actually it’s more then that… we never broke up” That’s it. She finally said that. “What?” the old man was stunned. He had not expected her to say that. “Daddy… Kyle and I We…" She began but didn’t need to finish the sentence. Blake realized everything when he saw the ring on her finger. The look on his face said it all. Meanwhile, Downstairs Krystle entered the house and closed the door. It was stormy outside. She took off her coat, put it in the closet with her umbrella and turned to go upstairs when she noticed the light in Blake’s study. “Blake? Are you here?” She called and went inside, but the room was empty. She was about to turn off the light when she saw the old wooden box beside it. It was open and several papers that looked like cut out articles and some pictures lay around. Krystle frowned and reached for a picture. It showed a woman in her early thirties. The face was familiar to her. It took her few moments when she realized that the woman on the picture was the one she had bumped into the other day in the boutique. On the picture, the woman was younger, but the face was the same. Why did Blake have a picture of her? Krystle didn’t understand. She put the picture down and looked at the articles. She picked one up. Above the article, there was a photo of Blake and the lady, arm in arm. Blake was smiling and waving into the camera. The woman looked very happy and was smiling at Blake. Krystle’s heart started to bump faster and faster, but it felt as if it would stop beating forever when she read the headlines of the newspaper: Californian Wine-Princess Patricia Harrison”
