The Valentine was privately developed by Vickers-Armstrong as an Infantry tank.  However the result more a cruiser tank then a infantry tank.  The Valentine went through an incredible number of marks and variations.  Aside from 11 main gun tanks there were also many differnet modifications, including a flail tank and an amphibious version.  The Valentine saw service on many fronts, including North Africa, Italy, the Pacific, and Russia.  While the tank was originally under gunned, upgraded version made a good showing of themselves, and were admired for their reliability.
