Issues in South Africa: Essay by Ruben Magnus
Hello

As a general rule, I do not address issues outside of North America as there are many pressing issues that are important to discuss in the United States and English speaking Canada.  However, events in southern Africa during the past week have worsened considerably, and thus far, I have not heard anyone in the controlled media or in the American government request that we move in to stop ethnic cleansing that is currently taking place in that part of the world.    I believe that events in southern Africa are important as they provide an accurate picture of what our own land will be like
in fifty to one hundred years if the current demographic trends are not reversed.  The two countries that I will be focusing on in today's essay are Zimbabwe (formerly known as Rhodesia) and South Africa.
The first colony of whites arrived in South Africa in the year 1652 in the region around the Cape of Good Hope, only 32 years after the Pilgrims first set foot upon our continent.  Large numbers of
these people came from the Netherlands as well as Germany and France.  Like the Pilgrims, many of them left Europe in search of religious freedom and the desire to make a better life for themselves in a new continent.  Britain took control of the Cape region during the Napoleonic wars in order to prevent Napoleon from seizing such a valuable sea route.  During this time Britain imposed a series of measures that were designed to Anglicize the mostly Dutch residents of the Cape Colony.  Many of the settlers resented this, and in an effort to move away from British yoke they moved into the interior of South Africa during the 1830's in a series of journeys known
as the Great Trek.  They formed two republics, known as the Transvaal and the Free State and for
many years these people lived under their own government free from outside interference and in the course of time a new language called Afrikaans developed.  With the discovery of the itwatersrand
gold mines around the end of the nineteenth century, Britain provoked a war in order to subjugate
these sovereign countries in an effort to boost Britain's share of the world's gold supply.  Britain won the war, not by its strength of arms on the battlefield, but by burning down farms and homes and by imprisoning women and children in concentration camps, where 27,000 of them perished.
For many years, South Africa was under British control until the glorious victory of the National Party in 1948 under Daniel Francois Malan.  With this victory, Afrikaners gained the political control that had been stolen from them with the British victory.  In 1961, under the leadership of Hendrik Verwoed, South Africa withdrew from the Commonwealth and affirmed its place among the family of nations.  This success was short lived, after Verwoed was assassinated in 1966 and the weight of the world turned against South Africa.
The United States government along with the rest of the supposedly free countries in the West, imposed a crippling system of sanctions on South Africa which caused severe damage to the South African economy.  In addition, the sanctions created civil unrest as the economic effects began to be felt by the blacks.  Throughout the latter part of the 1980's and early 1990's we in America were constantly bombarded with stories about how evil the South African Police were and how the whites were mistreating the blacks.  The reality was quite the opposite as during this time period countless numbers of blacks from Zimbabwe, Angola, Mozambique, and other "liberated" African countries would stream into South Africa in search of the economic opportunity that the afforded by the white government.
During the 1980's and early 1990's the leadership of the National Party led by PW. Botha and later FW De Klerk did everything imaginable to ensure that whites would no longer govern South Africa.  De Klerk unbanned the ANC in 1990 and released Nelson Mandela, the man who had led a bloodthirsty organization that was responsible for the murders of countless numbers blacks and whites.  De Klerk promised that the end of apartheid would unleash a new era of brotherhood and that with the end of the sanctions, South Africa would prosper.
In April of 1994, the first black government was elected as the African National Congress came to power.  With it, South Africa has headed downhill in every conceivable fashion.  From being a country that was safe, South Africa has been transformed into the country with the world's highest crime rate.  Whites in South Africa live behind razor wire fences and bars on windows and doors in an effort to keep themselves safe from criminals.  In the "New South Africa", gangs of blacks will rape infants as they believe that intercourse with a virgin will cure them of AIDS. The current president, Thabo Mbeki claims that HIV does not cause AIDS.
The economy of South Africa, one that was able to provide abundant economic opportunity for people of all races, now has an unemployment rate of over 25%.  The Communist policies that the ANC has implemented are responsible for the flight of money and many foreign businesses that once operated in South Africa.  The Central Business District of Johannesburg, which not too long ago was no different from Dallas, Atlanta, or Toronto, is now filled with garbage and with squatters who have invaded what were once large office and residential buildings.  It is a little known fact in the United States that the ANC is allied with the South African Communist Party and that Nelson Mandela was a member of the SACP until he "renounced" his position shortly before becoming president.  The South African government is mired in corruption from Thabo Mbeki all the way down
to the lowest levels of the Civil Service.  Government ministers will steal public funds for their own use and this almost always goes unpunished or police officers will commit crimes while they are off duty.
South Africa's road and electrical infrastructure are falling apart as the affirmative action appointees have no idea how to run these sorts of things.  If pot holes appear on the streets, they are not repaired as the funds that have been appropriated for roads have been stolen by the people
running these departments.  I have been to a fair share of countries and I have never seen a country that charges as many tolls and does as little work in repairing roads as South Africa does.
The tax rate in South Africa is astronomically high as the government taxes the "rich" (whites) and redistributes only a fraction of what is taken in to the blacks.  Most of what is taken in is, in fact, stolen by those "administering" the department, and the black who is standing on a street
corner looking for work will never see a dime's worth of this.
Meanwhile, over a quarter of the white population has left as they search for a better life in places like the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Britain.  There are many who would love to come to the US and Canada to become productive members of our land, but the inept immigration
department that approve student visas for the September 11 hijackers, never comes around to allowing many of these people in. These people are extremely well qualified and they could fill many
skilled positions where we lack enough qualified people.  I, would like to see just about every single
one of them come to this country, with the exception of those like De Klerk,  who stabbed their people in the back.
