Dark Light

The rain, it beat down hard that day,
It echoed like the sound,
Touching the leaves upon their trees,
That soon became a pound.

He was a very happy child,
So full of joy and laughter,
Little did he know that fateful night
Would bring a crushing disaster.

The alley way was dark and dank
He asked to go anyway
His parents grudgingly obliged,
For it was his birthday.

He came slowly into the light
He moved without a sound
The shots were loud and merciless
And pearls dropped to the ground.

The three words that meant so much
Could no longer, by him, be found
They lay beside the stone of gray
With roses on the ground.

His heart, it ached with every breath,
The pain cut deep within,
He swore to himself he’d reveal his soul,
To no one else again.

The time, it passed, with endless pain
Of what happened under the light,
He’d go to bed each night with dread,
Of the nightmares to come that night.

He then went back, to their grave,
To make a solemn vow,
To punish those who did this to him
Their hearts so evil and foul.

He studied every art known to man,
He traveled ‘round the world,
For years he trained, sweated and worked
For his talents to be unfurled.

Soon he made a mask of black,
And a suit, dark shade of gray,
To avenge the painful, dreadful night
When his parents were taken away.

The time moved on, so slow and drug
More slow than it had before,
The pain, it did not go away,
It just grew even more.

Soon he found he was all alone
He’d shoved everyone away,
He was in a horrid state
He was too ashamed to pray.

He hid behind a cloud of hate,
Projected heartless fear,
And through all this pain and regret
He couldn’t shed a single tear.

The days went on, the nights would pass,
He’d prowl upon the roof,
Despite those who’d reach out to him,
He’d forever remain aloof.

And then it happened one rough night
His heart felt it would fray
It just became too much for him,
He sat down and he prayed.

He spoke to God from within his heart
He reached out with his soul
He explained to him how he was in pain
And asked to once more be whole.

God heard his prayer and his painful cry
Alone, into the night,
He spoke to him, not to be so grim;
Everything would be all right.

Soon he found his feet again,
He stood on solid ground,
He tried his best to make some friends,
It was harder than it sounds.

He joined the league, he made some friends

He then had found the light

To guide him through the darkness grim

He felt that fateful night.

For now he knew in times of trouble

He’d always have one friend

Who guided him and comforted him

When he thought he’d reached the end.

Even now as he does patrol

Each and every night,

He looks at the sky and gives a brief smile

Knowing God was right.
