Storm Warning

The clock struck midnight in the hallway. A chill ran through her when a low moan was heard from under the willow tree outside. The living room in which she was sitting had the lights turned down low because of the midwinter storm that finally broke around 8pm that evening.

The wind was howling thru the branches, so she was not sure what she had heard at first. Placing the book she was reading on the coffee table, she slowly opened the drapes to peer out.

Maybe her husband had finally returned from the city where he had had a meeting earlier. Through the window she noticed the family car was in the drive. Although the lights were on, no-one was inside.
She closed the drapes and slowly moved towards the front door.

Another low moan from outside caused her to pause a moment and listen.
Reaching the front door, she slowly opens it to peer out. Lightning strikes out in the night.
The lights flicker threateningly when she notices her husband sitting on the front porch. She opens the door fully and steps out reaching to place a hand on her husbands shoulder.

A sudden gust of wind blows up the drive and causes her husband to fall over.
His head rolling towards her feet.
She opens her mouth to scream when another flash of lightning strikes the front gate illuminating the entire scene. Blood runs down the drive from her husband in a steady stream.
Out of the corner of her eye she sees the axe coming but can't move as it strikes home.
Lights fade to black as she slumps over her husbands body, her head resting on the doorstep next to his.

I hope you have enjoyed this Halloween Story.
If you are sitting at home alone and there is a storm going on outside,
remember if the lights flicker and you hear a moan from outside under the willow tree....
It's probably……. just the wind.

More tales to come - return soon :)
