Brief History of Progressive Lodge No. 64

Seeing the need for a local Lodge, Brother James St. Clair Politte, who was a well known resident of Mount Vernon, N.Y. and a member of Cornerstone Lodge No. 37, in New York City,  contacted other men interested in the mysteries of Freemasonry and a club was organized, in  Mount Vernon, N.Y., on or about July 23, 1921. Upon reaching a membership of 46, Brother Politte petitioned the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of New York State for a Charter. The Charter was granted and given to Progressive Lodge No. 64 on July 28, 1922.
As a reward for his arduous efforts and Masonic experience, Brother Politte was elected the First Worshipful Master of Progressive Lodge. At the present time Progressive Lodge is enjoying a full calendar of events, with a full program and a membership of  176 energetic capable men which is symbolic of its name "Progressive"

The Mason who does not look beyond the forms and ceremonies of the institution fails, utterly fails to realize the import of its teachings. Its sublime truths are indeed mysteries to him.
No Brother can fail to become wiser and better, if he will pause on his way through the degrees, and deliberately study the allegories and symbols so profusely set before him in Freemasonry.
No matter in what direction he may turn, the lessons of truths are set before him on every side, and it only remains for him to study their deep and hidden meaning.
