Eva Thieftaker - background

Eva started her adventuring life in the city of Threshold. She stumbled across the Iron circle on her first day (while fulfilling a commission to destroy a nest of giant ants) and never looked back. Her mother was a peddler and her father was a struggling sculptor. Eva was their only child and they were unsure of her desire to seek a life of adventure, however they were from stout Windrush farming stock and after the shearing ceremony had little say in Eva's life decisions.

Eva soon earnt fame as a thief taker after smashing the iron ring in Threshold. She stayed in the city for a number of years becoming the Captain of the guard and funding the building of a new Captains tower (that stands to this day) in pigery square. Upon hearing of the reappearance of her foe - the thief with blue eyes - she left Threshold and tracked the mysterious thief across the world and some rumour even beyond. As of 1101 she is still relentlessly tracking down her foe.

Parents whose children seek the life of thieves and bandits frighten their children by mentioning Eva's exploits and telling them if they continue Eva will take them away in the dead of night to the deepest dungeons and dankest cells

Journal of Eva Thieftaker

The Iron Circle hideout under Threshold has a number of entrances. I have found - Shanks entrance (under Desperation Bar), the Crossed Swords, under the stables and an entrance on the river bank.

Shanks Warehouse - In the floor of a small room is a laundry chute, which enters into the Iron Circle lair.

The Crossed Swords - There is a trap door in the bar room to the cross roads. In the cellar there is a secret door that opens onto the Iron Circle lair. There is also a secret door from the bar room to an unknown area.

Stables - The entrance is via a barrel.

The Iron Circle have enemies everywhere, including other rogues guilds but they also have allies in other guilds...One such man is the Prince Prig from the Shadowhands - referred to by the Iron Circle as their cousins in the East. The Prince Prig is an Eastern Empire ex gladiator called "Condor"

Many people who are rescued from the Iron Circle wish to show their gratitude. One such was a merchant called Therber - an Eye of Vilayet - who I saved from the Iron circle. He has rewarded me with a parchment that on presentation gives me 10% discount when dealing with all Vilayet merchants.

Today I met a most unusual thief. He is a master thief of this I am certain and is a spellcaster of no mean ability. He uses a spell that produces floating eyes that he can direct over the countryside and view his prey. He has very unusual piercing blue eyes, curly black hair that is going slightly grey, he has high check bones and a strong chin. He escaped and I must find him to solve the mystery of where the Iron Circle was sending their prisoners.

I have found a cavern one day north of Threshold that the Iron Circle are using. It leads to a complex with Wizards glory by the front entrance. One of the corridors contains a pool from which Aquatic monsters attack. Walking by the right side of a glyph on the floor by this area - five feet by four feet - opens a doorway in the hall that leads to the pool area. Ignoring the glyph and continuing to the end of the corridor takes you to the testing area of the Iron Circle. A Treasure hoard is kept in the flooded part of this room. If you can retrieve an item you have passed a test.

Condor was killed by an Eastern empire noble called Tregonas who the Iron Circle had captured. They were planning on impersonating the noble by use of a doppleganger. In addition to a constricting band item the following note was found on Condor:

"9 after the Day of Dread

Temple of the Sun

Kelumvorius Dissent assured"

I have helped Adriyyll (an Elf Lord) rescue a party of elves who fell prey to the Iron Circle. Like most of the circle's prey they were undoubtedly headed for the slave pits..... Adriyyll was able to identify the sword I carry as a Sword made by the legendary Corngold who is currently living in Wendar (the elven city of wonder). The sword is made from steel ore enchanted by corngold - it makes a brassy coloured blade with elven patterns, an ornate hilt and a black leather grip. The longsword glows golden and is able to heal wounds once per day. No matter what filthy thief's lair I drag it through it stays clean and never loses it sharp edge. In addition to the Corngold Longsword I am having an ancient swordbreaker repaired by Yas Haldred of Threshold. The swordbreaker was a heraldic weapon of a chieftain from about one thousand year ago. It is a wight slayer and once, when it was new, would of held an enchantment that has dimmed and faded over time.

My actions against the Iron Circle have bought me into contact with many strange people and items. In particular a strange rune that I found on a glass vial of black substance that I took from the body of an Iron Circle thief who was being tested in the pool room. I took the vial to a magic user in Town called Tepkin (a gnome) who identified the substance as blackrock. For half of the substance he brewed me a potion that would increase my life span and mean that I would age much more slowly than others. Tepkin also advised me that the blue eyed thief I sought was probably an innate wizard of fire - a Flame. He was also able to advise of the nature of some lockpicks I had found. They are superbly made and magical in nature giving non thieves (such as myself) a chance of picking non magical locks. I have found out that more of these picks may be able to be obtained from Hawksbill of Vilayet an associate of Therber. Tepkin also advised that my new companion Eakus, while a construct had free will and the ability to learn and develop unlike most of his kind.

The following knock codes are used by the Iron Circle. X's are long knocks and S's are short knocks:

XXS SSS

(possibly delay due to guards - used to question the presence of people)

SXS

(an affirmative reply)

XXX

(question, what's happening)

Hit chest three times and say fraternity, fraternity, fraternity

Call other thieves brothers

Special handshake - with fingers curled like a claw

The following was found on a caravan master written in lemon juice with a grey iron circle ring - symbol of the Iron Circle. It is possibly a change of codes since I have discovered some of the previously used ones. An X is a large mountain symbol and S a small mountain symbol:

SXS becomes XSX

XXX becomes SSX

SS becomes XS

SXXSS becomes XSSXS

I have not managed to find him yet but I believe blue eyes is up to something - something on a large scale. He seemed afraid that I may have found the following picture on a scroll (from the Iron Circle) that is now at Tepkins. The jackal headed figure is mysterious and strange and prompted Eakus to contact another Watcher using the following symbol.

The Iron Circle is destroyed but word has reached me of a Red Raider who has set up a meeting to establish a Red Network. One of the people involved is a man with a hiss, a rat like shape, a pointy hairless skull and who is 7' tall.
