Interview with Captain Rock after his victory over Mr Snow
By Psinga the Herald
So Captain Rock, you have just defeated the super-barbarian Mr Snow in single combat. How do you feel?
Like Ive been beaten nearly to death! <Captain Rock laughs and then clutches his side in pain.> I just feel good to be alive Psinga. But seriously, while I may have been the one out there in the battleground trading blows with Mr Snow, so long as the Silver Knot and the people of Mythtropolis are in my corner giving me their faith and their support, no battle I fight is ever truly alone. I know Ive got the support of friends and allies and that can give a person a lot of confidence and strength to see something through. I saw that today and thats a pretty good feeling to have right there.
About the fight itself, it seemed as if you and Mr Snow were trading blows strong enough to damage the landscape. How was it that that the two of you were able to survive the blows?
Mr Snow was incredibly strong and had developed his strength to the point where he could brace himself and absorb the impact of my blows. That meant I wasnt doing a lot of damage to him, and left me with a very tough fight. As for myself, I was able to borrow resilience from the city in order to fend off his super-powered attacks such as his ice-spiked fists and his freezing attacks. But dont get the wrong idea Psinga, as my aching bones and Doctor Rook will tell you, I felt every one of those blows from Mr Snow. Im just fortunate enough that Im tough enough to take damage like that and keep going. Hard as a rock, thats me. <Captain Rock taps his bandaged chest and grins.>
You seemed to change tactics half-way through the fight. Could you tell us why?
Do you mean with the use of powers or with hand-to-hand fighting?
Why not tell us about both?
Well concerning the use of powers during the fight it was really a game of "one-potato two-potato". As Mr Snow used his freezing powers, I began to use my city attunement and magic. He was able to ride out my magical fire attack just through sheer toughness and he cancelled my contact with the city by destroying the local area. (Which you can assure your readers Psinga I plan on doing my best to restore as best as my powers and the Crown allows.) Luckily, while he cancelled out my powers, his freezing attacks werent enough on their own to stop me, although they did come fairly close. I guess my experiences in the War of the Elements stood me in good stead.
As for the hand-to-hand tactics, that was a matter of using my head instead of my fists. After he punched me out of the ring for that second time, Mystery and Dog yelled at me and gave some pointed reminders about using brains instead of brawn. I then remembered some techniques an old family friend taught me and did my best to repeat them. I guess that when youve been trained by Krull Ironshell, and you spar against someone like Ironthorn on a regular basis you tend to pick up a trick or two.
So was this your toughest fight?
A difficult question Psinga. Ive been a lot of fights so far and vanquished enemies mortal, meta-powered and supernatural. What makes Mr Snow really stand out more than anything is that I didnt have the rest of the Silver Knot physically fighting by my side. Together weve taken on and defeated some pretty nasty foes, and be it through physical force or battles of wits, weve done it as a team. That means any combat without them by my side is going to be that much tougher. But Mr Snow specifically? He was pretty damned hard, but in the end he was just a super-powered barbarian with delusions of grandeur and not enough heart.
He was no Watchdog you mean?
Exactly Psinga.
Why did you challenge Mr Snow?
Several reasons Psinga. I wont lie - there was a lady involved, but those specific details will remain private for now. Suffice to say she had been wronged and an account had to be settled. Another, possibly more significant, reason was that Mr Snow had ensorcelled both my friend Lord O.G.R.E. and the crew of my ship, the Maven IIa. I do not take too kindly to any who harm my friends or malign my crew. No-one who does so turns a profit. Mr Snow needed to be given that lesson. And besides, he seemed more than willing to step out for a fight, though why he specifically wanted to fight me Im not so sure.
Did you plan on killing him?
No. I was aware the challenge had the potential to escalate into a fight to the death, but that was really dependent on Mr Snow and how he used his powers. He didnt pull any of his punches or his powers and I was prepared to match his level of force in that regard. It is unfortunate that in the end our strength failed us both and he died. For while I disliked him, a man lost his life and I took it. That can never be a good thing, no matter the circumstances.
So what do the Silver Knot plan on doing next?
Well weve got the War of the Elements to wrap up, a super-villain or two to stop the plans of, and the world to save. Not all of us will be working as one unit for some of us are required to put out the "spot-fires" while the rest of us take care of the underlying causes. Weve got it all mapped out and are working closely with other groups throughout the kingdom. We havent let you down before and we wont now.
Well thank you for your time. On behalf of the Mythtropolis Gazette I wish the Silver Knot all the best, and a quick and safe return.
