PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Player of the week for (June 28th - July 4th) is 1B Ripper Collins of the Montgomery Burns. Ripper outpaced everyone by a large margin this week. For the week Ripper batted .500 (17-34) with two home runs, two doubles and two triples with a slugging percentage of .853. Ripper also finished with a league leading nine RBI and was second in the league with eight runs scored. During the week Ripper had at least one hit in all seven games and one two occasions had four hits and once a three hit game. Ripper had back-to-back home run games and also accumulated two game winning RBI. During the week Ripper raised his batting average 20 points from .333 to .353.

Other Player of the Week Candidates:

C - Mickey (Black Mike) Cochrane of Montgomery who batted .529 (9-17) with one home run and one triple with five RBI and four runs scored.

1B - Lou (The Iron Horse) Gehrig of Freemont who batted .500 (12-24) with one home run, one double and one triple, knocked in two runs and scored nine times himself.

SP - Dizzy Dean of St. Louis who pitched the first shutout in four weeks in his only start of the week striking out four.

3B - Pinky Whitney of Pawtucket who batted .458 (11-24) with two home runs, two doubles and two triples, five RBI, six runs scored and a stolen base.

PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Player of the month for the month of June 1933 is OF Mel (Master Melvin) Ott of the North Dallas Forty. This was one of the closest players of the Month competition in quite a while. Jimmie Foxx posted extremely solid numbers and it could have gone either way. However the writers in North Dallas have created quite a stir over Mel and he has even gotten notice on the east coast. Mel batted .383 (44-115) on the month with eleven home runs and seven doubles with a slugging average of .730. He collected 35 RBI during the month and also scored 26 runs. He had 14 multiple hit games including five three hit games and one four hit game. Mel also had eleven multiple RBI games and five multiple run games. The Master had two multiple home run games and twice had a string of three straight games with a home run. Mel had a 2:1 walk to strikeout ratio with ten walks and five K's and had six game winning RBI.

PITCHER OF THE MONTH

Pitcher of the Month for the Month of June 1933; is SP Carl (The Meal Ticket) Hubbell of North Dallas completing the North Dallas sweep. The Pitcher of the Month for April is back with another outstanding month of pitching. Carl was 2-0 on the month with two complete games in five starts. His ERA was 2.66 allowing twelve earned runs in 40.66 innings pitched while striking out 21 batters against eight walks. Carl is currently 12-3 on the season and is on pace halfway through the season to become the first 20 game winner in DBS history.
